Although he had been drawn to music as a child and played in bands as a teenager, he chose to study graphic design as a career. However, after attaining his degree, Karunesh - a Sanskrit name meaning "compassion" - was involved in a serious motorcycle accident. His brush with death prompted him to rethink his life and embark on a spiritual journey of sorts, and in 1979 he travelled to India and became an Osho sannyasi (disciple). His accident also prompted him to choose music as a career instead of graphic design.
In 1984, Karunesh released his first album entitled Sounds of the Heart, which was met with success, followed by Colours Of Light the following year and Sky's Beyond the year after that. Songs from his album 'GLOBAL SPIRIT' are also released on several 'Buddha Bar' compilations. Three of his albums made it into the 'Top Ten Billboard Charts'. As of 2007 Karunesh has released 16 albums. Karunesh's last album is 'Path of Compassion released in 2010 from Real Music Label.
Karunesh has lived in Maui, Hawaii, since 1992.
Arabian Nights
Karunesh Lyrics

(oğul) Ben ağlim ki belki gönül uslanır uslanır
Sana dün bir tepeden bak... (tım)
Matemini ahh dönülmez ak.
aziz İstanbul
Geç.
ufkundayız vakit çok...
The song Arabian Nights by Karunesh is a beautiful tribute to Istanbul, also known as Constantinople. The first two lines are in Turkish and they translate to "Don't cry, your eyelashes will get wet (your coal-black eyes)/I cry so that maybe my heart can finally be calm." The lyrics convey emotion and sorrow for past events. The next two lines, "I saw you from a hill yesterday/Your mourning, oh, an irreversible flow" suggest that the singer has seen Istanbul from a distance and the city's past sorrows can never be undone.
The song continues with a tribute to the city's name: "dear Istanbul, passing beyond, we are on the horizon, time is plenty." The lyrics reveal a reverence for the city's history and significance. Istanbul has been a center for trade and commerce for centuries, and its name is derived from the Greek words 'eis tēn polin', which means "to the city." Karunesh's song captures the city's vibrance and reflects on the fact that its mysteries are unending. The stunning music and emotive lyrics beautifully capture the essence of the city.
