Prior to being a recording artist, he was a record store owner and a club DJ at a nightclub in Salt Lake City as a way to make ends meet for him and his wife. After he and his wife moved to San Francisco he landed a job as a A&R man at OM records, where in addition to reviewing demos for the label he also submitted his own material, which would pay off big time for him. In 2001 he went from behind the desk to behind the turntables and the recording studio as an artist in his own right. In 2003 Kaskade released his first album, "It's You It's Me", which was well received by critics.
It would be his follow up, "In The Moment" in 2004, that would put Kaskade on the map. The first single off the set "Steppin' Out" would become a major hit on the Dance Radio Airplay that year as well as a top 10 hit on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. His biggest breakthrough would come the week of May 14, 2005, when his follow up, "Everything," would go all the way to #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

Everybody says you gotta figure it out
Pull the veil
Make the world sad, a secret you'll never tell
Got a curse that I can't kick
Broken pieces I can't fix
All I know now
But maybe it's okay to be lost in your backyard
Okay to wander woods in the dark
Okay to be lost in your backyard
Are we all just fakin' It?
Maybe it's okay to be lost in your backyard
Okay to wander woods in the dark
Lonely little terrified hearts
Are we all just fakin' it?
Are we all just fakin' it, fakin' it?
Are we all just fakin' it, fakin' it?
Are we all just fakin' it, fakin' it?
Diamonds and gold
Cover me like skin over skeleton bones
I chase the high
Let the strangers soothe me like a lullaby
Oh the desert mirage keeps
Moving further out of reach
All I know now
Is I know nothing now
Maybe it's okay to be lost in your backyard
Okay to wander woods in the dark
Okay to be lost in your backyard
Are all just fakin' it?
Maybe it's okay to be lost in your backyard
Okay to wander woods in the dark
Lonely little terrified hearts
Are we all just fakin' it?
Are we all just fakin' it, fakin' it?
Are we all just fakin' it, fakin' it?
Are we all just fakin' it, fakin' it?
The lyrics of Kaskade & Felix Cartal's song "Fakin It" talk about how it's okay to feel lost or confused about life, and that everyone might actually be faking their way through it. The first verse talks about how people say you need to have everything figured out, but it's okay to not know anything for certain. The second verse talks about how material things like diamonds and gold can't hide the insecurities and fears inside, and how people seek comfort from strangers. The chorus repeats the idea that it's okay to be lost or scared, and that maybe everyone else is faking it too.
The song has a positive message of acceptance and self-compassion. The lyrics suggest that it's okay to not have life figured out, and that it's better to embrace one's own vulnerabilities and uncertainties, than to pretend to be someone else. The references to backyard and woods imply a connection to nature, suggesting that it's okay to find solace in the simple things in life.
