Prior to being a recording artist, he was a record store owner and a club DJ at a nightclub in Salt Lake City as a way to make ends meet for him and his wife. After he and his wife moved to San Francisco he landed a job as a A&R man at OM records, where in addition to reviewing demos for the label he also submitted his own material, which would pay off big time for him. In 2001 he went from behind the desk to behind the turntables and the recording studio as an artist in his own right. In 2003 Kaskade released his first album, "It's You It's Me", which was well received by critics.
It would be his follow up, "In The Moment" in 2004, that would put Kaskade on the map. The first single off the set "Steppin' Out" would become a major hit on the Dance Radio Airplay that year as well as a top 10 hit on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. His biggest breakthrough would come the week of May 14, 2005, when his follow up, "Everything," would go all the way to #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.
Words & Melody
Kaskade Lyrics

To just words and to melody
But I still need to pay the bills
So I want you to want what I give
I'm not going to lie to you
I've not always been true
But I'm hoping you'll find the good
I want you to know what I mean
As I ready to board the plane
Forget where I'm going
Could you just try with me?
Wanting to be who we are
We might be going far
Waiting for this flight
I'm sure we won't get sleep tonight
The lyrics of Kaskade's song Words & Melody describe the artist's desire to return to a simpler, more authentic approach to music-making in which the focus is on the words and melody rather than commercial success. The singer acknowledges that, even as he longs to create music purely for its own sake, he still needs to make a living and hopes that his audience will appreciate what he has to offer.
The second verse of the song reveals a sense of vulnerability as the singer confesses that he has not always been entirely truthful, but hopes that his listeners will see beyond his flaws and recognize the positive aspects of his work. As he prepares to embark on a journey whose destination is uncertain, he implores his listeners to join him in embracing their true selves and following their dreams, even if the road ahead is difficult and sleepless nights await.
Overall, this song seems to be a heartfelt plea for authenticity and connection in an industry where commercial concerns often trump artistic integrity. It recognizes that there is a tension between the desire to create art for its own sake and the need to earn a living, yet insists that we can still strive to stay true to ourselves and our passions even as we navigate the practicalities of life.
