In March 2009, her self-released debut album, Take to the Sky, reached the Top 20 on the Billboard magazine jazz chart. Way Down Low was released in 2012, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. Her third album, The Big Picture, was released on September 30, 2014.
"You see a show like the one Kat Edmonson put on Tuesday night at Scullers, and you wonder what the heck people are doing at Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry concerts. Really, the world is unjust... Edmonson, a petite singer from Austin, Texas, is at once a throwback and a pioneer. Her intimate vocal style and stage presence recall the heyday of jazz
- she has the expressiveness of Billie Holiday, the elegance of Ella Fitzgerald, and the voice of Blossom Dearie. Yet she doesn't merely retread standards. Sure, she likes her Cole Porter, but she and her pianist/arranger, Kevin Lovejoy, molded and modernized chestnuts like "Just One of Those Things," "Night and Day," and "It's All Right With Me" into entirely fresh tunes with new harmonies, inventive rhythm structures, and sometimes mysterious undertones.
Edmonson has grown quite comfortable inside these songs, taking even more liberties with them than she did on her recent CD, Take to the Sky, which stands among the best records of 2009. Like Holiday, Edmonson likes to sing just behind the beat, which infuses her demure voice with drama and heartbreak.
Kat Edmonson is a great jazz singer.
Starting Over
Kat Edmonson Lyrics

Is so precious together
We have grown, we have grown
Although our love is still special
Let's take a chance and fly away
Somewhere alone
It's been too long since we took the time
But when I see you darling
It's like we both are falling in love again
It'll be just like starting over
Starting over
Everyday we used to make it love
Why can't we be making love nice and easy
It's time to spread our wings and fly
Don't let another day go by my love
It'll be just like starting over
Starting over
Why don't we take off alone
Take a trip somewhere far, far away
We'll be together all alone again
Like we used to in the early days
Well, well, well darling
It's been too long since we took the time
No-one's to blame, I know time flies so quickly
But when I see you darling
It's like we both are falling in love again
It'll be just like starting over
Starting over
Our life together
Is so precious together
We have grown, we have grown
Although our love still is special
Let's take a chance and fly away somewhere
(Over and over and over)
Starting over (over and over and over)
(And over and over and over)
(Over and over and over)
(And over and over and over)
In "Starting Over," Kat Edmonson sings about a relationship that has lost its spark and is in need of revitalization. She expresses the importance of taking the time to focus on each other and suggests a fresh start as a way to reignite the passion in their relationship. The lyrics are hopeful and speak to the idea that it is never too late to start anew.
The song’s opening lines, “Our life together is so precious together, we have grown, we have grown,” emphasize the value and history of their relationship. Even though they’ve been together for a while, they’ve “grown,” and their love is still special. However, the second verse acknowledges that they need to make some changes, as it has been too long since they’ve taken the time to “make it love” each day. The chorus suggests that starting over, taking a chance and flying away somewhere alone, will help them to rediscover their love and feel like they’re falling in love again. The final verses are a repetition of the message, encouraging one another to take the leap and make the necessary changes.
Overall, “Starting Over” is a song about the importance of recognizing when a relationship needs change and being willing to try something new to reignite the passion. The lyrics are relatable and have a gentle tone, promoting the idea that it is possible to start again and build a stronger relationship.
