Too Young
Kat Frankie Lyrics

Always seems they'll never like through it
You know I'm standing in the cold
Feeling bolder than your buried gold
Because I know the harbour where I'll go to die
Oh, it used to be we lived out in the sticks
Machen nichts als flippin' tic-tac-toe for kicks
'Cause the government's got me on file
And you're sweet, but I'm alarmed to say the least
Too young to know death comes to those who wait
Too young to check the real estate
Too young to mourn, the best of us are gone
Too young to have it going on
Too young to find the pocket money spent
Too young to love the girl I met
Too young to want to get back up
And to know that it don't mean so much
But I'm sure that I'll get older in the end
In Kat Frankie's song Too Young, the lyrics express a sense of anxiety related to growing older and facing inevitable death. The opening lines suggest a contrast between the singer's own experience of life and that of children, who do not yet fully understand the precariousness of mortality. The singer is "standing in the cold," implying a feeling of exposure and vulnerability, but also a determination to face the future with courage. The reference to "buried gold" suggests a sense of having something valuable to protect, perhaps one's own sense of self or identity.
The second stanza highlights a sense of nostalgia for a simpler time when life was less complex and the singer's concerns were more frivolous. However, the reference to the government having the singer "on file" suggests a growing awareness of surveillance and control, and a sense of unease about the future. The final lines of the stanza express ambivalence towards a romantic partner, suggesting that the singer has mixed feelings about what the future might hold.
The chorus emphasizes the idea that the singer is "too young" to fully comprehend the complexities of life and that there is a sense of inevitability to mortality. Despite this, the singer is also aware that they will "get older in the end," suggesting a determination to face the future with resilience and acceptance.
