Deliberation
Katatonia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Visions come
Visions come
In a sickroom bed
There's something left to learn
Pass them on
Let it show
Let the rich meet death
Confront your own concern

See us sleep behind the glass
Unaware of crime
Will you wake up before it is time

The red circle holds the only light
Break down my perspective
And notify everyone when the time is right
My mouth remains inactive

So when you let me in
You let me justify my own reward
You put your hands on me
And I learn the words I didn't know before

I am ice
I am clear
Let the world be cold
Our deliberation
Pass them on
Let it show
Let the words come slow
Your constant incantation

Repeating cycle of light, no light
There's nothing in the airspace

There's no one in the airspace
Repeating cycle of love, no love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Katatonia's song Deliberation are full of metaphorical language, presenting a thought-provoking message from start to finish. The opening lines set the tone for the song's reflective nature, with the repeated phrase "visions come" implying a sense of inevitability or even inevitability in the face of some kind of truth. The imagery of a "sickroom bed" is particularly impactful, suggesting a feeling of confinement or powerlessness in the face of larger forces at work.

As the song progresses, the lyrics touch on themes of mortality and self-reflection. The line "Let the rich meet death" seems to convey a sense of the ultimate equalizer, with death rendering all distinctions of wealth and power irrelevant. The lyrics also encourage listeners to confront their own concerns and fears, perhaps suggesting that only by facing these internal struggles head-on can we hope to find peace or clarity.

The verses culminate in an intense moment of introspection, with the singer reflecting on their own sense of identity and purpose. The line "my mouth remains inactive" seems to suggest a feeling of powerlessness, as if the singer is unable to convey their true thoughts or emotions. Yet, the song ultimately delivers a message of hope, with the repetition of "pass them on" and "let it show" suggesting that by sharing our experiences and inner truths, we can empower others to do the same.

Overall, the lyrics of Deliberation are richly layered and thought-provoking, inviting listeners to delve deeper into themes of mortality, self-reflection, and the power of shared experience.

A decade ago i was in such a state, losing the battle against a depression that was quickly becoming suicidal. It could have gone bad. Listening to this song actually gave me comfort back then, despite it being so bleak and melancholic. Started using opiates in hopes of death, and they actually cured me (go figure) when everything else failled. It was this combination of alternative music + alternative medication that rescued me from the claws of Hell.

@MethilOdin

Katatonia is among the bands, like Sentenced, which are underrated and deserve much more audience and attention.
