1) The most well-known Katharsis (aka KTHRSS) is a German black metal band formed in 1994. The members are Aeshma on "styx" (drums), Scorn on "scythe" (bass, guitars), and Drakh providing "sting" (vocals). The group does not play live shows.

3) Katharsis are a surf rock band with its origins in New Jersey. In early September of 2008, Justin Chung (Guitar, Lead Vocals) began searching for band members to finish out his desired four piece ensemble. Justin reconnected with his old summer camp friend, Jesse Haack (Drums) who then contacted David McNally (Bass, Back-Up Vocals). Matt Modica, Justin's classmate, originally filled the part of guitarist but scheduling problems eventually led to a lineup change. The band later found Matt Dezenzo, a youthful metal virtuoso, who briefly took over for Matt Modica. However, Justin's songwriting took a turn toward the melodic side and the band eventually parted with Matt Dezenzo. David Scala was then recruited to fill the role of guitarist and lends his unique style to Katharsis' music.

4) Katharsis were an alternative/progressive rock band from Greenville, NC that disbanded in early 2007. From the about page on the band's official website: "Katharsis has been a work in progress since 2003. Seeking edgy music with a positive message, guitar players Garett Bissonnette, of One Word, and Patrick Spohr, of Rhetoric, got together to trade riffs and immediately felt they had to passionately pursue the music that unfolded. Settling for anything less than the best was not an option. They auditioned many drummers and bass players before finally finding Cory Granger, a local college student, and Eric Pyburn, Patrick’s bass player from Rhetoric. With the musicians in place, the search for a singer was long and arduous. After two singers came and left, the four members of Katharsis discovered Ean Hirst, of Seraphin, running sound at a local bar. As soon as they heard his voice they knew they had found their front man. With the ensemble complete, they immediately started an intense writing session.
The band had been writing and rehearsing with and without singers over the previous year and a half before finding Ean. Combining the original melodies created by Katharsis and the lyrics written by Ean, Katharsis is brings a new sound to rock music, fusing the best of every world and never settling for anything that doesn’t live up to the title of being “cathartic”. A unique musical style, complete with vocals reminiscent of Alice in Chains, a melodic feel on par with A Perfect Circle, and the overall catchiness of Incubus, sets the stage for Katharsis’ powerful positive message."

The Last Wound
Katharsis Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Darkest shadows cast upon my crown..
One thousand years get more to come.
- A thousand years, and they will be gone.
Us they lifted him up on to his cross.
I was the splinter in his chest.
The wipping scourge on his pale cheeks.
And empty coffin for the dead.
The light of a dead million stars.
On the top of my spear i shall awake.
Call me the Prince of Winter, call me the Lord of Wolves.
Nightmare, endless, the freezing downs..
The sign of Upophis Destroyer, Star of Bestial Fornication.
Ghemhamforash is forgotten.
Five wounds of deliverance through wrath.
The tree of Sephirot is burnt.
The joy of heavens existh no longer.
A wooden rack to carry away the hope of the world.
A state that is baptized to the Ursurper Lord of Mayhem.
..And the thorncrowned clown of miserable fate hath lost the battle.
Aralim are weeping, poisoned nails split human flesh.
The first one crackth the palm of lies no justice shall be done.
The second fixeth the feeble hand which tried to put us down.
The third and fourth they crush his feet.
Which stalked the salty sea.
Those are the nails that help us win Satanic Victory.
The last wound on the naked corpse.
The spear hath pierced his side.
Our dream of vengeance hath come true.
The gates stand open wide.
The opening lines of Katharsis's The Last Wound evoke a sense of confusion and disorientation with the lines "Halluzinations, blurred sight. Darkest shadows cast upon my crown". This sets the tone for a song that seems to explore themes of pain, death, and rebirth. The following lines, "One thousand years get more to come. A thousand years, and they will be gone" evoke a sense of the cyclical nature of time, of beginnings and endings, and the inevitability of change.
The narrative then turns to a description of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, with the singer identifying themselves as "the splinter in his chest" and "the whipping scourge on his pale cheeks". These lines suggest a sense of guilt or complicity in the violence enacted upon Christ, as well as a kind of sadomasochistic pleasure derived from inflicting pain. This is reinforced by the lines "Nightmare, endless, the freezing downs", which suggest that pain and suffering are not only inevitable, but also desirable or even necessary for some kind of spiritual awakening or transformation.
The song then takes a more mythological turn, invoking imagery of fiery swords, harnessed wings, and the light of dead stars. The singer declares themselves the "Prince of Winter" and the "Lord of Wolves", suggesting a kind of primal, animalistic power. The lines "The joy of heavens existh no longer" suggest a rejection of a patriarchal, Christian worldview in favor of a more pagan or demonic one.
Overall, The Last Wound is a deeply unsettling and hypnotic piece of music that explores themes of pain, death, and rebirth. It is not so much a narrative or a story as it is a kind of ritual invocation or incantation, designed to invoke a sense of primal power and spiritual transformation.
