The family moved back to Ireland due to the rising crime rate in London at the time and settled in Waterford. Her childhood was a relatively smooth one, given the economic crisis in Ireland at the time, where for many families times were tough.
While in primary school, Katie kept to herself and retreated into music, where in interviews, she stated she became obsessed with the band "Queen" ( and mourned her idols death incesantly in 1991 at the age of 7!)On her thirteenth birthday her mother bought her an acoustic guitar and taught her three chords, which started her writing her own compositions and only one year on, she was playing live in various small venues around Ireland. Katie states, " I look back on what i was playing now and cringe, but really at fourteen and armed with three chords i really have to appreciate what i was trying to do."
She supported, a now renowned, Damien Rice twice and his interest in her started a local interest in the teenage writer.
Three years later she joined "Gallaxie 500esque" dreampop outfit, "Dae-Kim" as a contributing songwriter, guitarist and vocalist, along with former "Tenspeedracer" drummer Terry Cullen and within a year the band were generating record company interest and touring Europe extensively.
In 2008, Katie left the band amicably, to pursue her solo career and record her debut album of songs that she had been writing between gigs for the past three years.
In November, her debut album "Twelve" was released to critical acclaim in Ireland and a tour followed. This year she has worked with Mike Scott of the Waterboys and most recently, on David Kitts' new album.
Katie Kim is doing a series of live performances with Donal Dineen in Nov/Dec as part of his Fresh Air Festival. see http://freshairfestival.wordpress.com/live for more.

Wait. When you said her adopted parents where at the wedding I thought they had been lied to apart who the man was and didn't know it was her bio-bad. That's so disgusting. They basically abandoned there daughter as soon as she turned 18 because "She's an adult now." Being a parent is a life long commitment. There is so much more they could have done to try to protect there daughter.
Also I am so confused on why the bio-mum stayed with the bio-dad so long. He proved with the two younger girls that he hadn't changed since Katie was given up for adoption. She should have left when she was pregnant with the youngest daughter. And weather she did they or what actually happened, why was the those two girls still in the bio-dad's custody? Why didn't she fight for full custody with supervised visitation at the most.
Bio-mum is also a hippocrite. She shamed her ex-husband for being with there daughter because "She's a child." Bitch. This man when after you when you where 15! How did you not see the Red flags from the start?
Bennet. Why was he placed with bio-dad's mother. She was the one that raised bio-dad into the fucked up cunt he is! He should have been placed with bio-mum who was also Bennet's grandparent and also technically his step-mother cause she's the mother of his half siblings. Or probably a better idea Katie's adopted parents. They should have the same amount of rights a biological family member, when deciding where Bennet should go, cause that's how adoption is supposed to work.
At least in that situation Bennent might have lived, as he would have been in the back seat or maybe even still in the house. Yes how he was conviced was disgusting but that wasn't his fault he was still an innocent child.
No sympathy for bio-dad's mother. She raised that monster. Deep down she would have known she was putting Bennet in danger by giving him to Steve. Bennet's death is on her. She could have saved him.

I’ve heard of this story before, and I will fully agree that it is one of the most messed up stories I’ve ever heard and I watch ALOT of true crime so that says a lot.
@michelefizer2774
Exactly! Holy crap! Unfathomable!
@scottcantdance804
Interesting timing, with all of the headlines about activists and the push to legalize "consensual incest".

That 11 year old has more sense than every single adult in this video. 🤦🏽♀️
@fattiger6957
That's what I was thinking. That kid was the only one who realized how messed up the whole situation was. Makes it sadder that, since she hated her father so much, he probably abused her too.
@MyTaintedInnocence
OMG YESSSSS!!!! Even at that young age she recognised how wrong it was.
