She is acknowledged as one of the most important blues artists of her generation.
Webster was initially best known as a session musician behind Louisiana musicians on the Excello and Goldband record labels, such as Lightnin' Slim and Lonesome Sundown. She also played piano with Otis Redding in the 1960s, but after his death, went into semi-retirement. During her career, she was duet partner to many stars, among them B. B. King, Robert Cray and Rockin' Sidney. Her long professional relationship with the Alligator Records label is also worthy of noting.
In the 1980s, she was repeatedly booked for European tours and recorded albums for the German record label, Ornament Records. She cut You Know That's Right with the band Hot Links, and the album that established her in the United States; The Swamp Boogie Queen with guest spots by Bonnie Raitt and Robert Cray. She performed at both the San Francisco Blues Festival and Long Beach Blues Festival.
Webster suffered a stroke in 1993 while touring Greece and returned to performing the following year. She died from heart failure in League City, Texas, in September 1999.
Those Lonely Lonely Nights
Katie Webster Lyrics

Baby, yes, since you've been gone
Lay my head on my pillow
And I cried for you all night long
The things you used to say to me
I thought that we would never part
Oh you know I love you, darling
My life, my love, my heart
Is in your hands
My life and my joy, baby,
Have always been at your command
There′s been some lonely, lonely nights
Baby, yes, since you've been gone
Lay my head on my pillow
And I cried all night long
The lyrics of Katie Webster's song Those Lonely Lonely Nights depict the grief and pain of a woman whose lover has left her. She mourns the loss of a love that she thought was forever, reminiscing the moments they shared and the promises they made. She reveals the extent of her despair, describing the many lonely nights she has had since he left, and how she cries herself to sleep with his memories. She seeks an explanation for his actions, asking him why he broke her heart despite their love for each other.
The lyrics are poignant and emotional, capturing the essence of heartbreak and lost love. The pain and longing in the vocals of Katie Webster make the song relatable to anyone who has ever experienced heartbreak. It's a classic blues song that resonates with listeners and has helped to establish Katie Webster as one of the most skilled blues keyboardists of all time.
