Roads
Kawala Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Picked up besides the side road I took
And even when there's little stare
The way is lit beneath the lights
So eyes beyond and hold on strong
To the distant glow, I'm on my way
So trust me to come round for you
Don't stop, you know it's real, your heart
Is made of stone
So left or right, I'll turn my wheel
Decide my course, I'm on my way
(Whoa-oh-oh-who-oh)
So hold on tight and here I go
I'm coming for you
I'm on my way
(Whoa-oh-oh-who-oh)
So round the bend and round again
When home sets in I know I'm near to you
The darkness fades, gives way to all these
Neon signs flashing by as I roll to you
So eyes beyond and hold on strong
To the distant glow, I'm on my way
So trust me to come round for you
I'll be there soon, I'm on my way
Don't stop, you know it's real, your heart
Is made of stone
Don't stop, you know it's real, your heart
Is made of stone
So left or right, I'll turn my wheel
Decide my course, I'm on my way
(Whoa-oh-oh-who-oh)
So hold on tight and here I go
I'm coming for you
I'm on my way
(Whoa-oh-oh-who-oh)
The song "Roads" by Kawala tells a story of a journey, both physically and emotionally, where the singer is determined to reach their destination despite any obstacles that may come their way. The opening lines set the tone of the journey with the image of a stream of light and the feeling of being guided towards a destination. The singer has a sense of purpose and confidence that is expressed in the chorus, "Don't stop, you know it's real, your heart is made of stone". The lyrics suggest that the singer is driven by the desire to reach someone who is waiting for them at the end of the road. The lyrics also suggest that the singer has had to make a decision about the path they will take, to turn left or right, and they have chosen to follow the path that will lead them to their destination, "Decide my course, I'm on my way".
The imagery in the song adds to the sense of journey and movement, with references to neon signs flashing by as the singer approaches their destination. The lyrics "The darkness fades, gives way to all these neon signs flashing by as I roll to you" suggest that the journey has been long and that the singer has had to navigate through difficult times to reach their goal. The singer's motivation is clear, and they ask for trust and patience from the person waiting for them, "So trust me to come round for you, I'll be there soon, I'm on my way".
Overall, the song "Roads" is an uplifting and optimistic song about the journey of life and love, and the importance of staying true to oneself, even when facing challenges along the way.

A stream of light, golden it rolls
I see a bright light shining like a stream of gold
Picked up besides the side road I took
I noticed this light as I was traveling down a side road
And even when there's little stare
Even when there's not much to see
The way is lit beneath the lights
The way is clear because of the lights on the road
So eyes beyond and hold on strong
Keep focused on where you're going and don't give up
To the distant glow, I'm on my way
I can see a far-off light that I'm heading towards
So trust me to come round for you
Have faith that I'll come back to you
I'll be there soon, I'm on my way
I'm coming soon, just hold on
Don't stop, you know it's real, your heart
Don't give up, you know you want this
Is made of stone
You're strong enough to see this through
So left or right, I'll turn my wheel
I'll take whichever way gets me there
Decide my course, I'm on my way
I'm taking control of where I'm going and heading your way
(Whoa-oh-oh-who-oh)
This is the background vocalization of the song
So hold on tight and here I go
Get ready, here I come
I'm coming for you
I'm heading towards you
So round the bend and round again
I'll keep going until I get there, no matter how many turns there are
When home sets in I know I'm near to you
I know I'm getting closer when I feel like I'm home
The darkness fades, gives way to all these
The darkness disappears and is replaced by lights
Neon signs flashing by as I roll to you
I see neon signs flashing as I get closer to you

Tune to D# A# D# G A# D#
The intro is played on the low A# string (5/7/9/12\9/12\7/9\7\5) followed by picking low-to-high with your fingers 5-5-0-5-0-0. There are then some harmonics on the 12th fret (going high-to-low but only on the 3 highest strings) which you must try to do with one hand as your left hand should be on the 5th fret for only the F# harmonic.
Now repeat the intro on the A# string, but this time fret both the low and the high A# strings and play then together!
The 2 verse chords are then 0-12-0-12-0-0 to 5-0-0-5-0-0.
The bridge chords go like this: 7-0-0-7-0-0 to 5-0-0-5-0-0 to 0-12-0-12-0-0 to 7-0-0-7-0-0
The chorus is the same as the verse!
Obviously there are many fillers that unfortunately I don't have the time or the patience to work out, but hopefully I've been as clear as possible. Anyway, the most important thing is feeling the music for yourself, so just take the basic chords and have fun!
