Cecilia
Keeling Beckford Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Celia, you're breaking my heart
You're shaking my confidence daily
Oh, Cecilia, I'm down on my knees
I'm begging you please to come home

Celia, you're breaking my heart
You're shaking my confidence daily
Oh, Cecilia, I'm down on my knees
I'm begging you please to come home
Come on home

Making love in the afternoon with Cecilia
Up in my bedroom (making love)
I got up to wash my face
When I come back to bed
Someone's taken my place

Celia, you're breaking my heart
You're shaking my confidence daily
Oh, Cecilia, I'm down on my knees
I'm begging you please to come home
Come on home

Jubilation,
She loves me again,
I fall on the floor and I laughing,

Jubilation,

She loves me again,
I fall on the floor and I'm laughing

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Keeling Beckford's song "Cecilia" depict a man who is heartbroken and in distress. The song captures the pain he is feeling due to a woman named Cecilia breaking his heart and shaking his confidence daily. The singer falls to his knees and begs Cecilia to come back to him, showing just how important she is to him. In the second verse, the man describes making love with Cecilia in his bedroom, but when he comes back from washing his face, he finds that someone has taken his place in bed. The lyrics reveal that he is devastated by this, and he continues to plead with Cecilia to come home.

The overall message of the song is one of heartache and desperation. The lyrics capture the feelings of a man who has lost the love of his life and is doing everything in his power to get her back. The repetition of Cecilia in the chorus signifies the importance of the woman to the singer and how much he wants her to return. The second verse adds a layer of deep emotion to the song as it shows how physically intimate the relationship between the man and Cecilia was. The abrupt end of the verse, where he discovers someone else in his place, adds to the tragedy of the song.

Tune wicked.

Ken Lazarus bothered to write down the words. See, that's what makes a cover song better than the original, when the person singing it gives two whoops about the words. Silvertones are another example. There are six verses to "Waltzing Matilda" and they were so fn high that their "Skanking Matilda" barely has one verse. This is why Reggae took such a long time to 'go foreign.'
