Salick said Radica was written about his failed marriage. However, Salick said he still speaks with his ex-wife from time to time and the two have a cordial relationship. He said there had been many replies to his song but the only one worth mentioning was She Had a Right to Leave and Go, that was performed by Rawytee Ramroop. Salick said he was working on a reply to Ramroops song that he plans to launch before the Carnival season ends .
He has been enjoying a successful season with Radica.
Kenneth Salick took the 2009 Chutney Soca Monarch title with his hit song "Radica", after commanding 11,625 text votes from a total of 60,000 votes received between 8 p.m. on Saturday night to 2 a.m. yesterday.
The stunned 46-year-old handyman, a father of seven, of Manzanilla, said the crown would give him the chance to put to music 108 songs he had written over the years.
"I have been waiting for a break like this for a long, long time," he said in a telephone conversation yesterday.
He beat out nine other finalists in the night-long Carnival celebration at Skinner Park, San Fernando, on Saturday night, to claim a prize of $200,000.
Salick used his life story in his own composition β forever changing his life.
He admitted he was shocked when his name was called on Saturday night at the end of the competition at Skinner Park in San Fernando.
He took some time to get on stage and openly cried as he accepted his prize money. In the new judging system, the people voted for the winner.
Salick wrote Radica 16 years ago when his wife (Radica) left him with their seven children.
In his song, he asks her why did she leave him.
The new Chutney Soca Monarch is a labourer who cuts lawns in his hometown of Sangre Grande.
He plans to use his winning purse to purchase a house for his children, whom he thanked for staying with him during the most difficult time in his life.
The winner was selected for the first time this year by text votes.
Southex Promotions chief executive officer George Singh said votes from phones were capped to ensure the voting was fair. He said only the first 10 text votes from any one phone were applied to the contestants' score.
Singh said, "More than 60,000 votes were received by bmobile for Saturday night's competition, which was decided for the first time by text voting."
The results, after being audited and verified by bmobile, were announced at approximately 2.45 a.m. yesterday before a packed house. Singh said the pubic was given the opportunity to pick a winner this year.
"Every year, for the past 13 years, there have been protests over the judges' decision, so we decided to try something new," he said.
The show, titled "Festival of the Stars", started at 8 p.m. with a 45-minute spectacular opening act featuring the Gayatones orchestra, Susan Mohip dancers and the N-9 dancers.
Ten leading bands provided music to a capacity crowd. The soca chutney competition started with wild card winner Asha Kamachee, wearing a black sari decorated with silver sequins. She was accompanied by a troupe of dancers and sang "Kaisay Saloni", which earned her fourth spot.
Five-times winner Rikki Jai " followed with "Jai Kay Paree" (salute to the girls). In a silver and white outfit with a white turban on his head, he filled the stage with colourful dancers in an outstanding display. Neeshan "Hitman" Prabhu took the stage alone, singing and dancing to "Take meh gul", then made way for Salick at number four position.
Salick wore white and with a sober expression went down on his knees to lament his fate at the hands of "Radica", singing "Why you leave me and go". Dancers highlighted the performance and made way for Soca Elvis in red paying tribute to the rainbow culture with his patriotic song "Luv up".
The competition continued after guest performances with Patch and Mastermind with "Rum and Roti", followed by Hunter, Denyse Plummer, Ravi Bissambhar and Synergy television chutney star Rajin Dhanraj with "Go Nah".
Night of the Stars also saw Alison Hinds and Drupatee singing "Roll up de Tassa".

I am like a dog, without a bone
Gyul I don't want to be alone,
So Radica why yuh leave and go
Ohhh, Radica why yuh leave and go
Ohhh, Radica why yuh leave and go
Life is journey we all have to travel
Life is journey we all have to travel
If you not with me, I am unable
Life is a game we all have to play
Life is a game we all have to play
And if yuh not in I just can't win
So radica why yuh leave and gooo
Oh, Radica why yuh leave and go
Radica why yuh leave and gooo
Oh, Radica why yuh leave and go
Some run for diamond,
Others run for gold
Some without dreams and stories are told
Some run for diamond,
Others run for gold
Some without dreams and stories are told
Some without faith, others desire
Some without faith, others desire
But all I waiting for is you Radica
So radica why yuh leave and gooo
Oh, Radica why yuh leave and go
Radica why yuh leave and gooo
Oh, Radica why yuh leave and go
Dont forget the bridges yuh burnin behind
A love that is as true as mines, yuh will never find
Dont forget the bridges yuh burnin behind
A love that is as true as mines, yuh will never find
Some will promise you the heaven above
Some will promise you the heaven above
But all I have is my true love
So radica why yuh leave and gooo
Oh, Radica why yuh leave and go
Radica why yuh leave and gooo
Oh, Radica why yuh leave and go
I know I should hate you for all you put me through
But how can I hate you when I'm still in love with you.
I know I should hate you for all you put me through
But how can I hate you when I'm still in love with you.
My love for you may be unseen
My love for you may be unsee
But deep in my heart you is my queen
So Radica why yuh leave and go
ohhh Radica why yuh leave and go
Radica why yuh leave and go
ohhh Radica why yuh leave and go
Radica why yuh leave and go
The lyrics of Kenneth Salick's song Radica portray the feeling of intense longing and heartbreak of a man who has lost his lover. The lyrics express the pain and hurt he feels since his partner has left him, and how he feels incomplete and lost without her. The singer compares his condition to that of a dog without a bone, which is an analogy for loneliness and sadness. He desperately calls out her name, asking her why she left him, and how he is unable to enjoy life or play the game of life without her presence. He describes how some people search for materialistic things like gold or diamonds, while others search for love and faith, and the only thing he is waiting for is her.
The lyrics suggest that the singer is truly in love with his partner, and that his love is a genuine and pure feeling that cannot be broken. He explains how she should not forget the bridges she is burning behind her because true love is hard to find, and how he will always love her despite the pain she caused him. He admits that he should hate her for all she put him through, but his love for her is stronger than his anger or resentment towards her.
Overall, "Radica" is a deeply emotional song that portrays the intensity of love and heartbreak, and the longing and desperation that occur when one loses a partner.
