Fowler put together a country band in 1998 and began playing Tuesday nights at Babe's on Sixth Street in Austin. Within two years, he'd begun recording albums and struck big with his self-released Beer, Bait and Ammo (2000). The album sold around 30,000 copies in the Texas area and garnered an impressive amount of airplay, particularly for the album's title track. The song became somewhat of a Texas anthem; Mark Chesnutt made the song part of his live show, and Sammy Kershaw recorded it. Fowler returned in 2002 with his third album, High on the Hog, and boasted some impressive guests, including Willie Nelson and David Lee Garza.

To tell you that I?m a perfect man
Cause in the past I?ve been known to tie one on
When I go out with my friends
But lately all this drinkin?s been bringing me down
Been looking for salvation but all I?ve found is that
Chorus:
Won?t help me feel any stronger
I know it won?t help but I?m gonna try
Goin down to Mexico and drinkin em dry
Here I go
Well I ain't gone a day since you gone away
Without drinkin a few and blaming it on you
Couldn?t lie to myself or to anyone else
And say that I?m doin fine
Another shot of courage can?t drink you off my mind
Is there a message in this bottle that I can?t find cause
Chorus X2
All the tequila in Tijuana
It?s bringin me down
Got me feeling like I?m gonna die
Yeah it?s bringin me down
Got me feeling like I?m gonna die
Oh it?s bringin me down
Got me feeling like I?m gonna die
The lyrics of "All The Tequila in Tijuana" by Kevin Fowler are about a man who admits he's not perfect due to his tendency to drink too much when he goes out with friends. However, he's realizing that alcohol is not helping him cope with his issues, particularly since his significant other has left him. He's now seeking a way to move past his problems, but the only escape he can think of is to go to Mexico and drink himself into oblivion. The lyrics reflect a sense of desperation and vulnerability, as the man is aware that his drinking is becoming more of a problem than a solution.
The chorus repeats the message that drinking won't make things better, no matter how much tequila he consumes in Tijuana. He's aware that he's trying to find solace in the bottle, but it's only causing him to feel worse about himself. The repeated emphasis on the phrase "bringin me down" highlights the emotional impact that alcohol is having on him, and how it's making him feel like he's spiraling out of control.
Overall, the lyrics of "All The Tequila in Tijuana" address the destructive nature of excessive drinking, and how it can exacerbate rather than alleviate one's problems. The song also suggests that self-reflection and seeking help from others can ultimately be a more effective way to deal with life's challenges.
