You might not see me from the nosebleeds
I'll stand up on top of the dugout
And shout out and wave my arms and hold my tongue
‘Cause it's not me
I wondered how fast is light speed
Would life itself stay or follow me?
And coach look at me now
Look at me now
And team look at me now
Look at me now
Look at me now
Foul ball deep in centerfield
Ninth inning, two outs
Look at me now
Look at me now
Look at me now
Look at me now
I wondered how fast is light speed
Would life itself stay or follow me?
If I caught that one
Would it be the same?
It's a good thing this is just a game
The lyrics of "Lightspeed" by Kim present a story of a baseball player who wants to be seen and recognized by his team and the audience. This player is the centerfielder for his team but he feels that he remains unnoticed because of where he is positioned in the field. He is too far away from the audience to be seen, and too far away from his team to be heard. Despite this, he still tries to get their attention by standing on top of the dugout, shouting out, and waving his arms. But, he holds his tongue because he knows that he needs to focus on the game while playing and not on seeking attention. In the chorus, he tells his coach and team to look at him now, maybe because he has finally caught their attention or because he has made a game-winning move.
The second verse portrays a situation of a high-pressure moment in the game. It is the ninth inning, and there are two outs with a deep foul ball hit towards centerfield. The player seizes the moment and catches the ball, prompting him to once again tell his coach and team to look at him now. In the bridge, the player wonders about how fast light travels and whether life would be able to keep up with it. He contemplates whether his life would remain the same or follow along with him if he were to move at the speed of light. Finally, he concludes that whatever happens on the field is just a game, implying that he will keep giving it his all regardless of the outcome.

I’ve been watching this video for nearly 10 years and I didn’t realise it was uploaded in 2006, just struck me, makes you think the good work you put into the world as a human being, no matter how small can impact peoples lives in ways not first conceived by the creator. The world was a very different place in 2006, I hope your life has brought you a lot of joy throughout your despairs much like this video has done for many others.

This song is so magical and the music video makes it even more meaningful. It takes you back to a moment of trying to prove you are good enough towards a certain person. Little did do you know, you are and always will be good enough without anyone's glory.
