Love & Pride
King Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Golden brown texture like sun
Lays me down with my might she runs
Throughout the night
No need to fight
Never a frown with golden brown

Every time just like the last
On her ship tied to the mast
To distant lands
Takes both my hands
Never a frown with golden brown

Golden brown finer temptress
Through the ages she's heading west
From far away
Stays for a day
Never a frown with golden brown

Never a frown
With golden brown

Never a frown
With golden brown

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of King's Love & Pride can be interpreted as a tribute to a powerful, alluring force that the singer feels drawn to - represented by the "golden brown" texture that "lays him down." This force may represent a person, a feeling, or a state of mind, but whatever it is, the singer feels completely under its spell.

The "ship tied to the mast" metaphor suggests that the singer is willing to be swept away by this force at any cost, even if it means sacrificing his own freedom or autonomy. He sees this force as a "finer temptress" that has been around "through the ages," suggesting that it has a timeless and universal appeal.

Despite being completely under its spell, the singer never experiences a frown or negative consequence from his devotion to this force. This could suggest that the force is ultimately positive and nourishing, or it could be interpreted as a warning against the seductive powers of addiction or obsession.

I had dinner with Paul King when I was 18 - I won a Smash hit's contest and attended The Sony Radio Awards Dinner and Paul was the big guest of honour on our table :) Same year this was massive

Sadly, there was never a week when King, Queen, Prince and Princess were all in the UK Top 40 at the same time....

@DaveDaRave1980

Nope... I think King, Prince and Princess were all in the Top 40 for a couple of weeks in 1985... Queen missed out on making it a complete Royal Family by just a few weeks
