In 2013, while still a teenager, Marshall released the first King Krule album, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon, on XL in the U.K. and True Panther in the U.S. Marshall then collaborated with his brother Jack for the relatively fluid, more electronic A New Place 2 Drown. Released in 2015 and credited to Archy Marshall, its physical edition was packaged with a 208-page book of poetry, photography, and art. King Krule fully reactivated in 2017 with a handful of varied singles -- the dreamlike ballad "Czech One," the mid-tempo rocker "Dum Surfer," and the rumbling "Half Man Half Shark," all featuring saxophone from Ignacio Salvadores -- that led up to The Ooz, an hour-long follow-up written during a three-year period.

Some things I just
Were you born in the earth?
Sometimes I see planes
But I think of you and I stare
Sweeping through the night sky
All of you flying by
Perfectly above my head
With your cheeks on a chair
Some asleep
Some they are by
Hollywood minds are clear
Feel the weight of the world go
I start my journey to and fro
Passport in my pocket's getting old
Feel the weight of the world dissolve
You all look so small from up here
You all look so small from up there
You all look so small from up here
Is there concerns in the air?
You flew economy
Reserved your ecology
To escape this nightmare
A deluge of the world flows
Ain't too easy to see when it's
This lonely down here
So let's escape in this arrow
As if it weren't up to me
As if I did, I would care
From JFK on to Heathrow
Leave a window seat
I wanna feel free, up
King Krule's song Airport Antenatal Airplane delves into themes of isolation, escapism and self-reflection. The song starts with the repetition of "Some things I just", which could suggest that the singer is struggling to articulate what exactly they're feeling. The following lines introduce the idea of transcendence, with the singer pondering whether their love interest was born on earth or in the sky. As they watch airplanes fly by, they remark on how many people are on them, all flying above them, and observe how small they look from the ground. This concept highlights the idea of feeling insignificant.
The song then moves on to the singer's journey and the idea of escaping the troubles of reality. They mention their passport getting old, which could indicate a desire for new experiences or a sense of nostalgia for past travels. The weight of the world dissolves as they take off into the air, leaving behind their worries and feeling free. The line "You flew economy, reserved your ecology" suggests a concern for the environment, and the deluge of the world flows below them as they escape the chaos.
Overall, the song speaks to the idea of finding solace in escapism, even if just for a fleeting moment. The constant movement and anonymity of air travel provides a brief respite from the burdens of reality, especially in the current climate.
