In 2013, while still a teenager, Marshall released the first King Krule album, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon, on XL in the U.K. and True Panther in the U.S. Marshall then collaborated with his brother Jack for the relatively fluid, more electronic A New Place 2 Drown. Released in 2015 and credited to Archy Marshall, its physical edition was packaged with a 208-page book of poetry, photography, and art. King Krule fully reactivated in 2017 with a handful of varied singles -- the dreamlike ballad "Czech One," the mid-tempo rocker "Dum Surfer," and the rumbling "Half Man Half Shark," all featuring saxophone from Ignacio Salvadores -- that led up to The Ooz, an hour-long follow-up written during a three-year period.

Face me already
Replace me already
Nothings working with me
Nothings working with me
Don't you date baby date baby date
Face me already
Replace me already
To face me already
I'm a waste baby
And I'm alone
If you come over
Another down under you'd say
I'm down under
Nothings working with me
Nothings working with me
I'm as worthless you see
Nothing is working with me
Nothing is working with me
Nothing is working with me
The lyrics to King Krule's song Slush Puppy express themes of loneliness, self-doubt, and insecurity. The singer is addressing a potential love interest, urging them to "date" him and face him already, while also acknowledging his own worthlessness and the fear that comes with being vulnerable. He seems resigned to the fact that he is a "waste" and that no one will be able to save him from his own self-destructive tendencies.
The repetition of the phrase "nothing's working with me" serves to hammer home the singer's feelings of inadequacy and inability to connect with others. He is aware that he is pushing people away because of his own issues, but he feels powerless to change. The final line, "nothing is working with me," is a bleak conclusion that encapsulates the song's overall sense of hopelessness.
Overall, Slush Puppy is a poignant and introspective exploration of the difficulties of human connection and the ways in which our own insecurities can sabotage our relationships.
