A cornerstone pillar of the soundtrack of the '50s. You heard this EVERYWHERE in 1958 (I'm researching their possible musical collaboration with ad agencies for commercial work. Get some blood to the ol' brain cells, and try to recall a particular 1960s commercial for LUCKY STRIKES ["......REMEMBER HOW GREAT cigarettes used to taste....] ).
Wait a minut... was this the group that scored more radio airplay with the musical ditty HAPINESS IS (which was also covered by an ad agency for ANOTHER cigarette brand, KENT cigarettes)?

I was a busboy at that time a very exclusive night club in Kansas City named Eddy’s , and singers and entertainers would come and perform for 2 weeks at a time, and so I listened to the Kirby Stone Four and enjoyed their music, those were the good ol’ days, only memories remain.

Let me add to the reminiscing! I heard this ONCE in 1958 in a store in West Hempstead, New York where TV's and stereos were sold, my mother was buying an Andrea B&W TV, and this was playing on a stereo there at the store entrance, and I couldn't forget it. Thanks for posting this, it is TIMELESS!!! By the way, the Andrea TV was a headache forever after, but she kept the cabinet, like everybody else, and still has it.

Summer of '58, I was just back in the 48 after two years on Guam. Spent the summer with my cousins in Encino, CA. Found KFWB on my radio, and they were playing this song, loved it at once. Searched for it for 445 years, finally found it at a thrift store, So great to hear real singers doing a great song.

For those claiming this is the original and best version have not lived as long as I have. While I have an original Kirby Stone 33 1/3 RPM album by them, they are not the original recording of this song. It was one of the songs in the 1953 BROADWAY musical called KISMET, the music adapted from composer Alexander Borodin’s Prince Igor, and subsequently made into a 1955 film musical starting Howard Keel, Ann Blyth, Dolores Gray, and Vic Damone….if my addled memory serves me well. The Broadway stars were Alfred Drake and Dolores Morrow. The Broadway and movie versions have a sad, or wistful tone while the Kirby 1958 version is uplifting…but all are emotionally moving in their own way. I love them all.

I was a junior in high school and had this LP at home. Absolutely loved it! My go-to radio stations were WOWO here in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and WLS up Chi-Way. It was a real rush hearing this just now, and thanks for sharing! I'll be 82 next month, and this sounds as great as it did when I was 16.

Summer-1958. I just got back from two years on Guam (Dad's in the Navy), listening to KFWB, 980-AM in L.A. Heard this song a lot, loved it. About 50 years later, found the 45 in a thrift store. It's where it belongs now, in the collection of a true vinyl junkie!!

This song is so 1958! I remember it being played on the radio then, in the late 50's and early 60's. I was only four, five, six, but it stuck in my head. A long, long time later, like four years ago, having a classic music station on, I heard a piece by Borodin that sounded somewhat like this song, and it's the classic that this tune came from.

Bumped into this while browsing and I was instantly transported back to the late 1950s. I was just a kid back then and Ihis tune was played on the radio all the time. Interestingly, this song was originally in the stage production of "Kismet" earlier in the 50s (and it didn't sound anything like this). The Kirby Stone Four were quite popular back then.

On this day in 1958 {August 20th} the Kirby Stone Four performed "Baubles, Bangles, and Beads" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand... Three weeks earlier on July 28th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart for only a three-week stay, but did manage to peaked at #25??? It first charted in 1954 by Peggy Lee; her version reached #30... Leader Kirby Stone passed away on July 13th, 1981 at the age of 63... R.I.P. Mr. Kirby and Mr. Clark...

Jimmy Carroll arranged & produced this all-time favorite by this legendary 50's & 60's group. This song will forever, remind me of my Dad, who loved it, & sang it all the time, even though he was tone deaf, & couldn't sing to save his life. I loved this song the first time I heard it on KNX radio, Torrance, CA. I heard it on a crystal radio receiver I made but then since we lived less than a mile from the 50,000 watt clear channel radio tower it was easy to tune into. But I never knew the name of the group to buy a recording of it. I was pre-teen when I heard it. Decades later my brother told me the name of the group was the Kirby Stone Four which didn't sound right because I heard all those women's voices and probably men's voices too singing in the background.

Yes he did. I believe that he worked for the ABC Theatrical Agency out of Las Vegas. I worked with Kirby for five or six years back in the mid 70's. Kirby Stone Co. For a while we worked Vegas three to four times a year. As a matter of fact Art was instrumental in getting us the gig at the original MGM about six months after it opened. Good times. That's when Vegas was fun.
