Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart
Kirby Stone Four Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Dear when you smiled at me, I heard a melody
It haunted me from the start
Something inside of me started a symphony
Zing! Went the strings of my heart

'Twas like a breath of spring, heard a robin sing
About a nest set apart
All nature seemed to be in perfect harmony
Zing! Went the strings of my heart

Your eyes made skies blue again
What else could I do again
Keep repeating through again
"I love you, love you"

I still recall the thrill, guess I always will
I hope 'twill never depart
All nature seemed to be in perfect harmony
Zing! Went the strings of my heart

Your eyes made skies blue again
What else could I do again?
Keep repeating through again
"I love you, I do love you"

I still recall the thrill, I guess that I always will
I hope 'twill never depart

All nature seemed to be in perfect harmony
Zing! Went the strings of my heart

British rock group The Move did the remake in 1966 or 1967 (Bev Bevan on low vocal, later of Electric Light Orchestra & Electric Light Orchestra II").

Wasn't this song in the movie, TUNNEL VISION? Some guy who looked like Bill Murray danced all over the place in Times Square or am I completely mixed up? Maybe it was KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE circa 1976. Or GROOVE TUBE from around August 12th 1974 quarter to nine or ten depending on the time warp on Mars. Lot of future SNL people in the flick like John Candy and Cheri Oteri and Chevrolet Chase who played as a drum his head was a bongo lol.
the eyeball in the mouth was scaring me!!

wow

The Coasters had a better version of the same song on the B side of "Yakety Yak".

Yes, but in the days of the "cover boys," that R&B ditty that garnered soooo much jukebox airplay and record-spinning at teenage parties caught the attention of the "movers" across town.
Within, say two weeks YOUR song which couldn't get radio airplay on THAT side of town suddenly was "covered" by the likes of a PAT BOONE or THE LEMON SISTERS or whoever.
Talk to LITTLE RICHARD about this technique. Somewhere in the hustling and money-grubbing, you just might catch a few crumbs off the table.
Better still, look the remaining two guys from that Liverpool band. Ask them about how the industry treated them fair and square!

Produced by Mitch Miller.

Thanks. I've put too many artists in Ray
Conniff 's A&R stable over the years
Mitch could certainly hold his in recording sessions. From artists like CHARLIE (yes, THAT CHARLIE) PARKER to even Johnny Mathis, Mitch was great.

From THE RAWHIDE TV THEME to Johnny Mathis hits to Marty Robbins' run of western hits to his own Prime-Time TV show (with his "meatballs" and a young Leslie Uggams) to.... you name it.
This guy had the magic touch and a finger on the pulse of the national culture (regardless of his distaste for that newfangled "trash" he testified against, in Congressional sessions).

Jim Hilliker

I'll stick with Judy Garland singing this tune.

Harry Knackers

Gotta hear that now.
