On the Move
Kisses Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'd assume you're with me.
But in the night, in the night, in the night,
I was dying to be free.
Jealousy, jealousy, jealousy,
I was nervous to be here.
See me now, see me now, see me now,
I am never down.
And I rode the bus just to be with you.
I rode the city tram just to be near you.
Before I saw it all, your number on the floor.
And I had shut you out, no one's coming home.
And tell me something anything tonight, my love.
And tell me something anything tonight, my love.
On the move, on the move, on the move,
I'd assume you're with me.
But in the night, in the night, in the night,
I was dying to be free.
Jealousy, jealousy, jealousy,
I was nervous to be here.
See me now, see me now, see me now,
I am never down.
The lyrics of Kisses's song "On the Move" are somewhat cryptic and open to interpretation. However, the themes of freedom, jealousy, and longing are prevalent throughout the song. The chorus, "On the move, on the move, on the move, I'd assume you're with me. But in the night, in the night, in the night, I was dying to be free," suggests a sense of restlessness and a desire to break free from something or someone. The following lines, "Jealousy, jealousy, jealousy, I was nervous to be here. See me now, see me now, see me now, I am never down," hint at a possible relationship issue, where the singer may feel jealousy and insecurity in their romantic relationship, but they are putting on a brave face and appearing strong.
The verses describe the singer's efforts to be close to their love interest, riding buses and trams just to see them. However, the line "Before I saw it all, your number on the floor," suggests that the singer may have initially ignored or overlooked their love interest before something changed and they became interested. The final lines of the chorus repeat the earlier sentiment of wanting freedom despite assuming that their love interest is with them.
Overall, "On the Move" may be a reflection on the ups and downs of a romantic relationship, with the singer recognizing their own vulnerabilities and desires for both freedom and connection.
