I've always wondered how the idea of armor being heavy, bulky, and restricitng got started. As a professor once told me, armorers were not merely metalsmiths, they were truly engineers.
Just in case
Probably from several instances taken out of context, for exemple:
1) Armors do look heavy.
2) There were some non-combat ones that were pretty heavy and bulky.
3) While the armor is not nearly as restricted as people tend to think, you were almost completely fucked if you fell in deep water or mud.

A set of plate armour was about 30kgs iirc correctly. So while you could be agile in it, it was still heavy and you'd tire yourself out if you were going full steam the whole time.

This made knights go from being seen as bumbling thugs in super heavy armor, which for some reason is about as protective as cardboard, and with as much skill with the blade as an aggressive drunk, to being seen as the God Damn light tank of the middle ages. They dominated European battlefields for centuries for a pretty damn good reason.

Dont forget thats only the case for personally fitted armor. With one armor i wore i couldnt even do one sit up or stand back up.
And dont forget the fatigue. When you carry that much weight over a whole day you notice it.

@KONRAD Platt armor this complex was usually worn by royalty and their suits were well fitted.

@Random Person Good plate armor could easily deal with arrows and bolts (may dent it slightly) but even early black powder guns could be repelled by good plate armor from a distance.
