This is one of my favourite Gladys Knight/Pips singles. I remember back in the day i had to choose between this single and the Marvelettes 'When You're Young And In Love' to buy. I chose this single and so glad i did. I have been a Glayds Knight fan ever since.

Gladys' voice is unique: so powerful, coming from deep inside, no other can be compared, not even Aretha.
But the Marvelettes were unique too, their voices so silky and sometimes mysterious, I join those many voices that they are completely underrated until today.

This is a real masterpiece. Many say that the group was not treated properly by Motown but they released 9 albums in the space of seven years and had 17 singles that entered Hot Hundred, among them two songs that reached Nr. two on the charts.

Motown underperformed with Gladys Knight. They treated her and the Pips as also rans when in fact they were major r+b stars. Motown loved to produce product but rarely knew what to do with it. Their vaults at Universal are full of unreleased material. When their contract ran out with Motown Gladys was ready to move on to a better deal with a dedicated collaborator and not only left Motown with a huge hit but went on to win a goldmine of grammys. Berry Gordy missed so many boats.

Cant go wrong with a bit of Motown. I was only 6yrs old when this was on the go but still remember hearing it on the radio, then in later years, my cousin lived with my Grandparents for a few years and he was a big Motown fan, (as well as a Mod complete with Vespa or Lambretta) so I listened to all of his records and have never regretted a single moment of it.
