Born in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo to a Congolese mother and Ghanaian father, Koffi grew up in Kinshasa.
He went to France to study, while in Paris, he began playing the guitar and writing songs. On his return to Congo he was a member of Viva la Musica, Papa Wemba's band. Koffi repopularized the slower style of soukous, which had fallen out of fashion. He dubbed this style Tcha Tcho, and it gained popularity outside Congo. Koffi's music can be quite controversial, taking on current events and topics considered taboo in some conservative societies. He has also participated in the salsa music project Africando.

The lyrics to Koffi Olomide's song Dossier du Jour primarily feature several calls and responses between Koffi and the backing vocalists. In this song, Koffi is praising his fellow Congolese brethren who have made it abroad in Europe and are living the good life that comes along with it. He specifically references Papa Top and Papa Rocky, who are either people he knows or notable figures in the Congolese community. The song is rife with both themes of nostalgia and admiration for those who have made it out of the harsh realities of life in the Congo.
The song is also marked with a sense of respect and admiration for the ongoing struggles of the Congolese people as they seek to build better lives for themselves. The verses are littered with good-natured ribbing and jabs at the shortcomings of their circumstances, but it is all in service of the ultimate goal of celebrating when they do make it out. The chorus is upbeat and catchy, serving as a rallying cry for all those who would want to make their mark abroad and improve their station in life. Overall, the song is a joyful and celebratory ode to the resilience and determination of the Congolese people.

The city inspectors are all corrupt, the judges are not reliable, even the INTERPOL agents are not trustworthy, they all have their own interests. The case of the day, day by day. God is the only one who can save us.
