Born in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo to a Congolese mother and Ghanaian father, Koffi grew up in Kinshasa.
He went to France to study, while in Paris, he began playing the guitar and writing songs. On his return to Congo he was a member of Viva la Musica, Papa Wemba's band. Koffi repopularized the slower style of soukous, which had fallen out of fashion. He dubbed this style Tcha Tcho, and it gained popularity outside Congo. Koffi's music can be quite controversial, taking on current events and topics considered taboo in some conservative societies. He has also participated in the salsa music project Africando.

Ekila ya monganga soki a pesi nga, ya ko liya ata munga eko sala rien.
Régime ya dotceur soki a décider na melaka tî ezanga sukali problème ezala te.
Mokili ango malgré ba pasi n'ango.

The song "G.B" by Koffi Olomide addresses the theme of love and relationships with a touch of humor. The phrase "Gros Bébé" which translates to "Big Baby" in English is used throughout the song to refer to a loved one, who is being portrayed as someone who is childish yet irresistible. The first verse talks about how the singer is willing to do anything for his significant other, even if it means ignoring the advice of a nutritionist and risking obesity. The second verse compares the loved one to a "Lebanese beauty," emphasizing her attractiveness. The third verse highlights the singer's devotion to his loved one and his willingness to go to great lengths to defend her, even if it means becoming a lawyer. The chorus repeats the phrase "Gros Bébé" to show the singer's affection for the loved one.
The song is characterized by the use of Lingala, a language commonly spoken in a region that covers the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, and Angola. The lyrics are complemented by drumbeats and guitar riffs, which give the song a distinctly African sound. The phrase "Gb Ezao Yo" in the chorus is a Lingala expression that means "Your Big Baby," highlighting the singer's focus on his significant other.
