Ring around the Rosies, pocket full of posies
Ashes, ashes, we all fall down
Ring around the Rosies, pocket full of posies
Ashes, ashes, we all fall down

Nursery rhymes are said, verses in my head
Into my childhood, they're spoon-fed
Hidden violence revealed, darkness that seems real
Look at the pages that cause all this evil

One, two, buckle my shoe
Three, four, shut the door
Five, six, pick up sticks
Seven, eight, lay them straight

London Bridge is falling down
Falling down, falling down
London Bridge is falling down
My fair lady

Nursery rhymes are said, verses in my head
Into my childhood, they're spoon-fed
Hidden violence revealed, darkness that seems real
Look at the pages that cause all this evil

Nick nack paddy wack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home
Nick nack paddy wack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home

Nick nack paddy wack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home
Nick nack paddy wack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home
Nick nack paddy wack, give a dog a bone
This old man came rolling home
Nick nack paddy wack, give a dog a bone
This old man came

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Shoots and Ladders" by Korn are a dark interpretation of nursery rhymes. It mentions several popular nursery rhymes like "Ring Around the Rosie," "London Bridge is Falling Down," "Mary Had a Little Lamb," and "This Old Man." These rhymes seem harmless, innocent and playful when sung by children, but when we listen closely to the lyrics, we can feel the underlying darkness that they represent. The lyrics reflect a harsh reality of the world, where violence, evil, and death prevail, and how from an early age, children witness this darkness through rhymes and fairy tales.

The lyrics highlight the fact that the stories we read as children, the rhymes we sing, and the games we play have a dark side that we often ignore, and it stays with us for our entire life. These rhymes are imprinted in our heads and can be activated anytime, bringing to our consciousness the violent and cruel world that we live in. The song points out how the hidden violence in these nursery rhymes can trigger our memories and make us more aware of the reality around us.

In summary, Korn's "Shoots and Ladders" is a song that draws attention to the dark meanings hidden behind many nursery rhymes. The lyrics express how the images of death and darkness in these rhymes stay with us even as we grow older, imprinting on our minds forever.

Line by Line Meaning

Ring around the Rosies, pocket full of posies Ashes, ashes, we all fall down
The innocent nursery rhyme of 'Ring around the Rosies' is juxtaposed against the reality of death and decay portrayed in the line 'Ashes, ashes, we all fall down.' It could be interpreted as a commentary on how childhood innocence is not always reflective of the harsh reality of the world.

Nursery rhymes are said, verses in my head Into my childhood, they're spoon-fed Hidden violence revealed, darkness that seems real Look at the pages that cause all this evil
The song suggests that the seemingly harmless nursery rhymes and childhood tales contain disturbing messages about violence and suffering. The line 'look at the pages that cause all this evil' is particularly significant as it implies that the stories themselves are to blame for the darkness that exists in the world.

One, two, buckle my shoe Three, four, shut the door Five, six, pick up sticks Seven, eight, lay them straight London Bridge is falling down Falling down, falling down London Bridge is falling down My fair lady
The song uses a series of nursery rhyme verses, such as 'One, two, buckle my shoe' and 'London Bridge is falling down,' to further emphasize the notion that childhood tales and songs can have a pervasive influence on our minds. The repeated mention of 'falling down' could be interpreted as a metaphor for the collapse of innocence, or society at large.

Nick nack paddy wack, give a dog a bone This old man came rolling home Nick nack paddy wack, give a dog a bone This old man came rolling home Nick nack paddy wack, give a dog a bone This old man came rolling home Nick nack paddy wack, give a dog a bone This old man came
These seemingly silly and meaningless nursery rhymes are juxtaposed with the idea of 'rolling home,' which could represent the monotonous routine of life. The line 'give a dog a bone' could suggest that humans will resort to any means necessary to achieve a sense of satisfaction or fulfillment, even if it means desecrating a grave for bones.

Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was white as snow Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was white as snow (baa, baa, black sheep, have you any wool?) Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was white as snow (yes sir, yes sir, three bags full) Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was white as snow (baa, baa, black sheep, have you any wool?) Mary had a little lamb (yes sir, yes sir, three bags full)
The popular nursery rhyme of 'Mary had a little lamb' is used to show how even the most benign of tales can be psychologically damaging. The repetition of the phrases such as 'baa, baa, black sheep, have you any wool?' and 'yes sir, yes sir, three bags full,' are reminiscent of a military cadence and could symbolize rigid structure and control in society.

So, I'm a senior in high school right now. I've been enrolled into a new school my senior year and it sucks. I've also been battling my wretched sadness and maybe depression (my physician says I have it).
It's been hard for me; especially since I've felt sad and alone since the 7th grade.

Recently, I found out that some genres of music reflect my moods (doesn't it do it for everybody?).
The thing is, with Korn, it's like, all my moods. If I'm upset, I listen to Korn.
If I'm happy, I listen to Korn.
If I'm mad, I listen to Korn.
If I'm bored, then I listen to Korn.

Some of Korn's songs also have deep meanings; the lyrics that are also used hit different at times. Some feel really heavy while others are light. It's weird and unique and so interesting to listen to. It's what makes them enjoyable.

So far my senior year is going by slow, since I joined school 3-4 weeks late. Korn has made me more happy when I feel alone, or sad. I try not to embarrass myself by head bopping outta nowhere.

PS- THAT MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB PART IS SO FIIIIRRREEEE I LOVE IIIITTT!!!!
