I was really impressed with Dee Dee on DDG and I'm still impressed in her new musical direction as well. A lot of people won't be able to understand that, but from someone who plays/ writes/ produces music... you really just don't want to be tied to one genre, you can like all these different kinds of music and you want to apply it to your own. Bravo Dee Dee/ Kristin, can't wait to hear the album!

You are right about all that and I agree. The problem with the Kristin Kontrol project though is that it's not really good. I see and understand what she's trying to do/aim for, but it's lacking what many other projects of this genre have: soul, depth, originality. There have been and are many who pulled /pull this genre off majestically, but sadly KK doesn't and thus is just one of many who try too hard. It all seems way too forced, same with her artist name. All this extreme change, in style and everything, even in how she dresses, makes it all come across as quite fake and it's super hard to take it seriously. It's like when I'd make hardcore, dress accordingly, and 2 years later suddenly made chanson and put on Yeah-Yeah-60s dresses like France Gall.
And well, I'm one of the people who are highly interested in the genre that KK tries to pull off here, but I'm sorry, I'm disappointed and expected something really amazing. Compared to DDG it is just weak, and that has nothing to do with the genre but just with the whole output itself.

I just discovered Kristin because this song plays on the Mood Media music track at a hotel our company manages. I had to Shazam it right away. This is a sexy electro sound that is a true masterpiece. Congratulations Kristin! You NAILED it! I listen to this song over and over!

i really loved dum dum girls and its take on pop, taking its inspiration from the 60s jangle pop and female groups. Now, Kristin is taking my favorite era on pop: 80s glitzery disco! I couldn't ask for anything better! Hope she's happy with the change and I bet this album will be full of hooks and danceable beats!

I'm not at all worried that this doesn't sound incredibly original. It's catchy as hell and I love it. I listen to more disco and synthpop than I do DDG and this is right up my alley.

It is human nature to be resistant to change at times. We all loved DDG with all our hearts and ears, and still do, however an artist must be what he/she can be, not what he/she was. Sounds terrific, much success awaits you!

I have been listening to Kristin since the Grand Ole Party days in San Diego, so the change to The Dum Dum Girls was a bit of a shock, but she made it work and they only got better. Now she is moving to Pop, so I will wait on a judgment until I hear more of the new work.

I just listen to this today... it's better than i expected... i'm lucky to not just love rock n roll but some other genres as well.
I'm sad for those who are stuck in just one genre , for them Dee Dee evolution into Kristin Kontrol is a pure tragedy...
However i understand her choice , "Too True" the LP had reach a sort of state of perfection... it was alternative rock thru a seerious pop prism... so she decided to change the game... it's Ok with me

Definitely a departure from DDG's music, but her voice is still a very strong driving force (behind any genre of music) and the song still has a strong hook. I’m very much looking forward to the new album. Makes me wonder what sort of artist Hope Sandoval would have been if she would have taken a more Debbie Harry approach to her music.

I to was a huge DDG fan - especially Too True. That is an absolute millennial rock jem. I just heard the first song of the new album. Didn't like the music. It was 80s Madonna. Hate the quarter note kick drum drum machine crap. BUT, I loved the lyrics. So intelligent. So edgy. I got to check out the rest of the album. It took guts to go out on her own. The DDGs would have been even bigger than they were last year. She'll be playing smaller venues with this release. Maybe she doesn't care. Either way, she is gutsy. It was gutsy for her to go out on her own. It makes sense in that she can do it on her own. She's a great song writer and vocalist.

Kristin is probably the most talented singer on the Sub Pop roster, but I really don't like this. What a disappointment! Please change course! What did they do to her voice? It is buried in mush. That sounds like the guitar player from the Raveonettes. If it is then shame on him, too.

Personally, I don't think it's a matter of selling out. This song is just not good in my opinion. I am supportive of people making music and exploring sounds, but this is just not up to the standard she has set with previous music

+MattCummings what's funny about American music is that artists tend to do well when they keep making the same music, instead of pursuing their passions. Look at Aerosmith: the same song for over 3 decades. Granted, it's a good song but then you look at something like Blur and they change from album to album. You might not like it but they don't care about you.
