Albon's humble nature might be the very reason he puts as much effort into the simulator work as he does. It's also good to see that the people at RedBull understand that sim-drivers of this calibre does not grow on trees and they are doing their best to keep Albon motivated by rewarding his efforts.

Very gracious of Sergio Perez. He comments he appreciated Alex being open with him regarding the struggles he had with the car. The fact that Alex is seen with the team celebrating wins shows how much the team values him as a team player. I hope he will get the credit he deserve and maybe another chance. Pundits like David Croft, Paul di Resta, Will Buxton WTF1 were very harsh on him last year.

He loves, absolutely LOVES Pierre (and also REALLY likes Checo) and so from there I always felt his negativity towards Alex. Like it felt like Will and the media were pretty openly pushing for Checo to replace Alex constantly throughout last season.

Albon is a fantastic driver. Remember how he charged through the field in Belgium 2019, his first race with RBR. He needs more time to adapt, his junior careers reflects on that. But RB urgently needed an experienced and consistent driver to cover off Verstappen in 2021, that’s why he was ditched. Hope he’ll get back to the F1 race seat soon.

First of all, Marko was putting unwarranted pressure and blame on Gasly, slandering him for every performance, resulting in decline in his performance. The fact that he's getting better qualifying/finishing positions on AT than on RBR is proof of his abilities as a driver when he's confident. McLaren isn't publicly slandering Ricciardo, who is terribly underperforming. They are instead directly helping him, unlike RBR, who focused the vast majority of their attention and help on Max, rathern than keeping it 50/50.

Ikr. Imagine Tsunoda going to RB at the end of the summer break and having to consistently perform in the top 5 or 6. Actually, considering RB is the front runner at the moment, he would be expected to finish in the top 4 or 5. I don’t see that happening tbh, but in 2019 Alex was able to do that and he was never hyped up as much as yuki.

@KRN something people often forget, kind of hilariously, is that red bull is primarily still an energy drink company. Unlike mercedes, renault(in 2020), ferrari, mclaren and alpha.

It's simply worth more money for rb to bring in young talents that triumph against all odds. Added bonus was Albon's taiwanese origin, huge market that could be tapped if he was succesful.

Sure, it was a bad decision from a racing point of view, but if you have to choose between 20-50 points in the constructors vs increased sales in taiwan...

It sounds like Red Bull will want to keep Albon as their simulator / reserve driver - rather than giving him the Alpha Tauri second seat. To secure a seat in F1 it seems you have to be fast and you have to have some financial backing. Perez is fast and has financial backing.

Yuki is a Honda driver - with Honda departing F1 next year, it is doubtful they will retain him unless he proves himself worthy of the seat. He is also very expensive if he keeps crashing. And the two penalties he received for the same error (at the Austrian GP) is somewhat stupid - basic error!

Albon was simply promoted to full driver too early. This happens in all other sports.. Getting put back 'in the minors' works for a lot of players who eventually get a LOT better.

Albon's problem was "two steps forward, two steps back". The potential was there, just not the consistency. With a year or two at top level racing (DTM) and test driving for Red Bull, a second chance isn't out of the question. Daniel Riccardo is 31 and underperforming this season compared to his teammate, so that seat might open in a year or two.

I hope we see him substituting an injured RB/AT driver, RB would be way farther than Mercedes if Alex wasn’t there, he got robbed on a podium in Brazil 2019, with only a lap and a half left, also he got robbed on a podium and possibly a win in Austria 2020, the work he is doing right now is a sign that he deserves a F1 seat, DTM signed him for a reason is for Alex to regain his confidence and prepare him for his next step, he is doing great in DTM, he got a P4 and P7, P5 in the championship, he really deserves a seat

I think there is a self-interest in sharing and helping as much as possible as well. I think my getting the most out of his role as a test/reserve driver he also grows in understanding the car and what a team should or shouldn't do to improve it. By sharing this as much as he's doing he learns a lot more than when he'd keep it to himself.

I'm not an Albon fan, but the kid's talented enough to bounce back. I'm not expecting a Gasly-like turnaround, but it's not impossible. It's a shame for him that of the 4 Red Bull seats, 3 are occupied by superior drivers, making it rather hard for him to come back in the fold. I suppose if Gasly or Perez leaves, or if Tsunoda can't find any pace, he could get another shot in F1, and in the meantime he can bide his time in DTM. That's unless he gets a seat elsewhere in F1, and even then, I suppose the only seats he could take over are Kimi's and Russell's, not exactly prime real estate.

That's a "problem" with F1 - having only two drivers per team, without any rotation, doesn't allow for much breaking in or shared responsibilities. Until F1 decides to have 30 GPs a year with a rotation of three drivers, good drivers will fall through the cracks, and even money's not enough to guarantee you a seat - Checo's a talented and financially advantaged driver, yet he barely made this years grid.

Albon is a great driver, red bull is a hard car to drive and very powerful. theres alot of PRESSURE at top teams knowing your seat is gone if you underperform, Pierre Gasly was scoring alot of points in toro rosso and AT and even a win. Gasly and Albon would make a great pair at a midfield team that cares about your driving style and how you like it. but i also want yuki to stay because he is also a good driver that was in f2 for 1 whole year. redbull should have 3 teams. but it would be too expensive, theres too many top drivers but not much teams...

F1 should add this new regulation saying that the teams have to rotate their drivers , hence they have to let their backup drivers actually drive , which gives young drivers who graduated from F2 a chance to drive , people like Alex and Hülkenberg would get to drive and prove themselves , for ex they add this new regulation stating that a driver can't drive 3 races in a row .

I think they're making all F1 teams run test drivers in multiple practice sessions next year. I guess the problem with rotating the drivers is that the average viewer is less likely to watch if the likes of Hamilton/Vettel/Verstappen/Leclerc are not racing.

This is a bit of a long shot...
Mercedes have played a 3 year long game preparing George for a seat. This looks likely to finally give us a Lewis/George partnership for 2022 and 2023. As Lewis has just extended his contract by 2 years.
But there are no obvious drivers lined up to replace Lewis.
Could Mercedes tempt Max? And would Redbull give a more mature and experienced Alex another chance?
A lot would depend on relative performance of the cars. If the current season continues, there is not much incentive for Max to move.

And stupidly killing their own tires. That was the main thing. They both killed their own races, that is why Albon said that, it was unneeded and senseless, Albon was just saying that. But the both SAT drivers wanted to make a point. I understood Albon straight away, but people like a meme more than reality.

The comparison with McLaren really does not fit well because that season even Button failed to achieve a podium. And then McLaren just fell out of grace. Redbull on the other hand had Max Verstappen destroying it's competition he's a teammate killer

Why Alex got no such privilege to have such sim driver to help him and Max in 2020? Gasly will not be in RB for long and most likely Albono will race with AT in 2022.

They had (and still have Sebastian Buemi) who is widely considered as a brilliant test driver...
He and Albon both suggested many changes to the car, But when those changes were made, Car became slow(Even though it vastly improved its handling)...By the time RB found out that nice midway point between speed and handling..It was too late..(There were like 1-2 races left on the calendar)..
They made those changes in RB16-B right from the start..Hence, the improvement

sometimes the timing is not right and stars are not aligned just the way sports work you could have the best driver stuck with a shhiit team or shhiit car design its good to hear that Albon is being a positive help for red bull behind the scene while Hamilton is whining like a little girl regads to red bull cars because other teams are able to think outside the box other than mercedes .

No, I don't think Albon will have another chance in F1. At DTM, he was again 2nd fiddle. I think there's something in his on-track driving that just holds back a little, and that's all it takes for the pros to know that you are done, you'll never race here again. He didn't have that coming up. Even if you never perform very well, so long as you're not holding back, you can earn a seat. But if you hold back, you're done. Sim driving and other support positions, well it looks quite clear that Albon will be employed and well paid for many years to come. But not in an F1 driver's seat.

The simulator isn't a video game. It's a ridiculously complex physics engine. That can replicate the car's actual behavior very very accurately

If you really think about the the drivers on the grid currently and they way teams are preforming this season a lot could happen next year. Let’s start with the mentioned mclearn team, Danny ric is not the same driver he was back in his prime Red Bull days. Lando is really showing us the quality and pace of that mclearn car. If Danny Ric gets dropped I can see gasly taking that seat and having Albon slot into the empty alpha seat. Also mclearn with they way they have looked the last few seasons and the trajectory for improvement is the only team that I think gasly could be interested in.

@KRN we will have to see, I do think gasly deserves a better drive and as much as I like Riccardo I want to see massive improvement on his side. The progress of the mclearn team is really fast right now and I’m concerned that mclearn won’t want to wait for riccardo if he doesn’t improve. Also very interested in the engine Red Bull will develop and if they have the resources to provide that engine to other teams besides their sister team.

Then we have what I’m pretty sure is haas’s last chance season to see if they can really make it in f1 for the 2022 season. Just to remind everyone, haas has said at the beginning of this current 2021 season that there will be no development being pursued or made for this year‘s car. Also they went on to state that all developmental resources including financial would be going towards the 2022 seasons car. So the way they are handling this is getting there young rookie drivers accustomed to the feel of a formula 1 car in terms of the increased numbers of gears you have to keep track of and the level of downforce these cars produce and all that mixed with the tracks that they will be racing on. Compared to the f2 cars they where racing in just a season ago. So it just a season long driver development program to set up for a last chance 2022 season where they will throw everything at the wall and hope it sticks

Unfortunately I don't think so. I can't recall him mentioning anything about doing free practices, and I'm struggling to think of a time Red Bull have run a third driver in a practice session in their history, especially during a season where they're fighting for the title.
