Strandhagg Pt. I
Kromlek Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
From the north coast - heading southwards
Like a greedy wolf pack
Shores
Unsuspecting - approaching longboats
Out of the dim
[And] every row pull - urges us nearer
On our brutal journey
Ægir!
Lead our plunder - calm the ocean
Let us take the stormlead
Strandhagg!
Raging pagans – devastation!
Begging monks around us
Assault
Inflammation – false believers
All their prayers grew silent
Odin!
One-eyed warlord - our master
Bless our sacrifice
Norsemen
That we were - that we are
And that we’ll always be
Windlord! Swell our sails! Guide our trails… to fearful shores
Warlord! Bless our blades! Grant us grades… in thy hall up high
Strandhagg is beginning of the end.

The lyrics to Kromlek's song "Strandhagg Pt. I" speak of a group of Norsemen sailing from the north coast towards the south, like a pack of greedy wolves. The imagery of a stormy sea and the use of “Stormwhips” add to the intensity of their journey. The sailors are urged on by every row pull and the desire for their brutal journey to continue. The Norsemen pray to Ægir to lead their plunder and calm the ocean, allowing them to take the stormlead. They approach unknowing shores in their longboats, ready to wreak havoc upon upon it's inhabitants. They chant Strandhagg, which could be a reference to something like a raid or a battle.
As they attack and what could be assumed is a monastery, the monks around them begin to beg for mercy. However, the Norsemen show no mercy and continue to assault them with the blessing of Odin, the one-eyed warlord and their master. They are Norsemen, they have always been and always will be. The song ends with a plea to the Windlord, to guide and swell their sails, and to the Warlord to bless their blades and grant them reward in his hall up high.
The lyrics of "Strandhagg Pt. I" narrate the story of greedy Norsemen set out on a brutal journey of plundering, assaulting and destroying anything that lies in their way. They are unrelenting and unmerciful, showing their devotion to Odin and their Norse identity. The sense of violence and power in the lyrics is only enhanced by the stormy imagery and chanting, making for a very intense listening experience.
