The year after, he competed in the World Idol contest; after performing U2's "Beautiful Day" the Australian judge, Ian Dickson, told him: "You're one hell of a marketing challenge because you've got the voice of an angel but you look like a Hobbit." In spite of this, Kurt went on to win the competition, beating the bookies' favourite, American Idol Kelly Clarkson.
He has recorded several albums, the latest one Rise To The Occasion - with the single "Lost Highway" together with country legend Willie Nelson. _The_ Willie Nelson. Kurt has also played with Willie on his tour here in Norway.
Kurt Nilsen married Kristin Halvorsen in the summer of 2006. He has two kids from a previous relationship. His wife, Kristin, is one of the backupsingers in Kurt Nilsens hit "Push Push".
In the sparetime he enjoys trips to his lodge in the Norwegian mountains, and he is a huge fan of fishing.
Christmas Song
Kurt Nilsen Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Jack Frost nippin' at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos
Everybody knows
A turkey and some mistletoe
Helps to make the season bright
Will find it hard to sleep tonight
They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodie on his sleigh
And every mother's child is gonna spy
To see if reindeer really knows how to fly, oh
So I'm offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times many ways
Merry Christmas to you
So I'm offerin' this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times many ways
Merry Christmas to you
Merry Christmas
To you
The lyrics to Kurt Nilsen & Kringkastingsorkestret's song Christmas Song evoke images of the holiday season and all its familiar traditions and symbols. The opening lines describe a cozy scene of chestnuts roasting on an open fire and Jack Frost nipping at one's nose, while a choir sings Yuletide carols and people donning Eskimo attire mingle in the background. The second stanza speaks to the classic staples of a Christmas feast, with turkeys and mistletoe helping to make the season bright, and young children being too excited to sleep. The third stanza references the mythos surrounding Santa Claus, with every child hoping to spy on his arrival to see if his reindeer can actually fly.
The lyrics ultimately express a universal sentiment of wishing all who hear the song a Merry Christmas, from young children to the elderly, reiterating that this sentiment has been shared countless times before. The song's nostalgic evocation of holiday traditions, along with the vocal and orchestral arrangement, bring to life the comforting ambiance of Christmas time.

Still love Kurt but it's hard to get into the spirit of holidays with an insane orange clown in the White House. Greetings from SC, USA. Come back Kurt, it's been years since I saw you and your band represent Norway and perform in Washington DC. I voted for you on World Idol and have all your recordings. I just wish you would tour US ... maybe with Clay Aiken?

@tmfuco I don't know, I think Nat King Cole holds the title to this song in my opinion. Give it a listen, search Nat King Cole Christmas Song, youtube has an upload. I'm not saying that Kurt's version isn't good, its hard to compare to the classic though.

He shouldn't be singing pop rock. He should be the next Buble.
Gord Merritt
very nice, but Nat King Cole owns this song... just like Bing Crosby owns White Christmas... nice cover though.
