The Thing
Kurt Russell; Wilford Brimley; T.K. Carter; David Clennon; Keith David Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the stillness of the dawn
Our love is dead and gone
The sunrise warms my heart
With memories of you
It's the sweetest thing--remembering

There's a picture in the hall
That I'm leaving on the wall
'Cause there's a look in your eyes
That always made me fall apart
It's the sweetest thing--remembering
When I close my eyes to cry
I can't help but feel a smile
'Cause I think of you and I forget
It hurt to say goodbye

But after all we've been through
It's amazing to me
The sweetest thing's remembering
Oh the sweetest thing--remembering

We wanted love to last forever
And the good lord knows we tried
But when the rain came pouring down
There was no place left to hide

But after all we've been through
It's amazing to me
The sweetest thing's remembering
Oh the sweetest thing--remembering

It's the sweetest thing--remembering

The jumpscare was actually kind of perfect, you totally did not expect that in the middle of the conversation and with the attention being directed else where.

@Sothe of Daein and the reason this works is because the tension is built beautifully. it's not too drawn out, not too fast, the stark contrast in volume from them speaking to the thing shrieking, it keeps you on the edge of your seat. and the use of different angles, you literally have no clue when or if it's coming on your first watch. John Carpenter...bravo

TRINZINI

CLASSIC Horror film technique. Carpenter learned well from watching the original THE THING which is full of such unexpected jump scares (notice the several scenes in the original when they all gather in front of a closed door and open it : once, nothing. twice, nothing. third time : WHAM ! There he is !!

Practical effects will always be amazing. Jurassic Park, Alien, The Thing, American Werewolf in London, Jaws are prime examples.
