You absolutely blew my mind with this theory, omg. Especially the whole "sub-MARINE" pun, that took me out. If it's true, it would explain so much about Law's behavior over the years, especially why he cultivates such a horrific reputation while actually being a fairly decent guy underneath all the rumors and prickliness when we actually see him in action. Obviously, there are a lot of different theories about what Law's role will be in the story, as well as his relationship to Luffy, including one that said he'll be the Whitebeard to Luffy's Roger, while Coby will be Luffy's Garp, but this is interesting to contemplate as well. Congrats on calling the biggest plot twist of One Piece if it actually happens. :P

I especially agree with the bit about the rocky port incident where law took 100 hearts. It was a setup by sword. Because we know law as a doctor who respects the craft hates killing innocent people/random people of no importance he's not that kind of pirate. Also, why else would he go back and heal his body double he used to trick dolflamingo into thinking he was dead? It's because he didn't want the innocent guy to die and even apologised for using him.

I just think theres one major problem.
When Law got released by drake they didnt talk like they were both sword members, law talked like he was confused why drake betrayed kaido but if it helps him out he will go along with it.
If he was a member of sword i dont think the scene would play out this way

A little hint that was not mentioned by you is just how much Law seems to love a series all about a marine hero fighting the Germa 66.
Not anything major when you aren't in the "Law is a marine" mindset, but it just clicks way better when you think he is.

Also, I'm not 100% certain the eternal youth surgery is set-up to be used by Law; it could very much have been set-up to explain an eternal being, probably Imu.
Basically, I'm not a fan of him using it, because I'm not a fan of having an eternal Luffy around. Inherited will is important, and the strawhat should find another wearer at the end of the story imho. Hell, I would expect Luffy to refuse completely the potential of immortality.

I may not have mentioned it in this theory but I believe the the perpetual youth operation isn't really "eternal" but rather a transference of the user's remaining life force. So the same way Big Mom can take away 20, 30, 50, 70 years from a person, Law can give whatever he has left to another. Which in Luffy's case-- a man who has been constantly miss-using his life force (Gear 2nd, Ivankov taking 20 years away with their injections) may need a transference at some point whether he likes it or not. Especially-- if Big Mom steals years from him.

@Randy Troy To be entirely honest, the fact his life is very likely to be short and end in a last burst of greatness is something I like enough conceptually that I'd honestly prefer him scraping by on lifetime and to either die after the big climax or perhaps in a "near future" epilogue than to be gifted a second life.

For me, Luffy's life ending prematurely due to all his choices, and him having no regrets gels incredibly well with the overall story, and would not work as well if he had to borrow time from another to make the most of his life.

For Drake I didn't remember he also is a fan of Sora, but that makes a lot of sense.

Anyways, great theory, I'm eager to see how it fares with the changes Wano is sure to bring to the World!

You fully sold me on the 'benevolent pirate' line. Because I can't think of any other reason why law would say that other than yours. He's not a bad pirate and his crew would do the same thing for the town that the straw hats did if they had the chance and I think law would (and try and play it off all cool). But he looked legit and and going by what you say the only way I could see law saying that legitimately is if he's a marine. If he was a pirate and had the chance he would have done the same as the straw hats in my opinion. (But less obviously, laws style would be to leave it on the village outskirts and walk away).

That is a really nice review and it has captured the story of Trafalgar D Law so far #fanofhischaracter
I also think that Law is a marine and he has started to warm up to Luffy, I think when he witnessed the pain that Luffy faced after losing Ace (my heart broke) he might have wanted to fill that role and to also be a big brother to Mugiwara no Luffy. I hope he doesnt die because the hole that Ace left can also be filled partly by Law. That would be amazing,and Oda already robed us of Ace, At least Law should survive because Luffy would never allow him to perform the surgery.
One piece is so strong and whole as a story to me, and even through the highs and lows of both the story and our community. I still feel that Oda continues to prove he is a master storyteller who stands true to himself as well as inspire our One Piece Community. Im in for the story and the adventure, because this is worth it :)

Law hates pirates since a pirate killed who he loved.
Luffy hates/dislikes marines because they're people with stick up their butts who follow orders and negate freedom.

Both of them will realize otherwise. Law will realize that not all pirates are bad since Luffy is just out here seeking for adventure. Luffy would realize that Law, even as a marine, follows their own code and morals (SWORD), wants to defeat the World Government, the enemies of freedom.

But I know Luffy wouldn't care at all and still think Law's a cool guy, but the potential parallelism is great I can't ignore it.

Amazing job, you definitely convinced me. The only possible objection I could think of is that both Smoker and Fujitora attacked Law in Punk Hazard and Dressrosa, respectively. Those two characters seem like prime candidates for SWORD given their willingness to work with pirates for the greater good. However, it's possible these characters aren't in SWORD or are but weren't when they fought Law or SWORD is so secretive that even members don't know all the other members.

One thing I wanna add too about Garp and Dragon is when Garp first talked about Dragon he said "He said he saw you off at Rougetown" so in between then and EL Garp and Dragon talked at some point possibly in person to avoid Den Den Mushi hijacking. So the Hero of the Marines has a met up or convo with one of the most wanted men in the world. hmmmm

Great theory and video! Drake freeing Law in Wano definitely gives this theory more weight, but him telling Luffy he is an "army of one" in the latest chapter made me have some doubts. Maybe he just didn't want to blow Law's cover?

Rather than a Marine, I feel Law is more of an anti-pirate. Like in One Piece, there is not really a hero or villain, everyone has their motives. Being in the marine doesn't equate to you being the hero. In Law's standpoint, he is more of an individual moving against the flow of the world, and where he ended up is a pirate. But is he really the traditional pirate? Not really. He is a pirate doing the Marine's job, maybe aligning himself with SWORDS

100% on board. Been planning on making a vid about Garp being the Sword leader but you hit every nail on the head and more. Love how much you take the narrative and themes into account with this, especially mentioning that Law being a Sword agent adds a whole new plotline for his character to go down. Also, if Law were to use the Immortality Surgery on Luffy after being revealed to be a marine and attempting to apprehend him, it would be all the more powerful.

This may stem a whole new theory but Luffy’s motivation to take down the Celestial Dragon’s may not only be his deep desire to stand against injustice, but what you said earlier, Luffy’s mom was captured, tortured, or killed by them. Hence why Garp or anyone for that matter never mentions her to him because his impulse would send him straight after them. Eventually Sword & Shield will join together and tell Luffy and their will be the biggest grandest war in Anime history.

My theory on law's death:
The 1% man Hawkins foretells is a huge red herring/jebait by oda;
Luffy will die in Wano (making use believe he was the 1% man)
then law will revive him Luffy, sacrificing himself and revealing he was actually the 1% man.
The eternal youth will not work on Luffy in terms of making him "immortal" because of Luffy's already shortened lifespan. I also believe that coming so close to the face of death Luffy will either awaken, or will get a boost his his kings haki. What is more significant in terms of boosting one's kings haki than literally beating death...

Luffy's awakening;
He is not a producer, he ability only affects his body and he cannot externalize his power.
I believe awakening is essentially awakening the spirit/soul of the devil that resided in the devil fruit the person ate, and is laying dormant in the body.
Logia's affect their environment naturally; however awakened logia's externalize their power to a greater degree and quite literally change their environment.
Paramecia's like Doffy, and katakuri are different in that they can produce strings/mochi. Therefore their awakenings are able to turn their surrounds into external sources of power for their DF.
Based on these assumptions my belief is that Luffy's awakening will act in a similar way, in that it will extrinsically effect his environment/surroundings however it wont work exactly like Doffy's as Luffy is not a producer.

Luffy will be able to "rubberize" the land, sea an air. That's it, very simple. He wont be able to produce rubber, not will he be able to permanently change the environment, hell simply apply his abilities which only affect him, onto his surroundings. This would be the perfect counter to Blackbeard's Gura Gura no mi. Earthquake? Nah m8 rubberize that shit and make the floor ripple instead. Tsunami? Nah m8 rubberize the sea and simply make it ripple.

As well as it being the perfect counter to the Gura Gura no mi. It would be very applicable in combat, being able to jump off the now rubberized air, Luffy could possibly rubberize the sea and bounce of it's surface (f he were to somehow fall down towards the sea). He could rubberize the floor/air to greatly enhance speed/power etc. he could use it to disrupt his opponents balance/foundation, he could rubberize the sunny to repel cannonballs. He could possibly create walls of rubber via the floor/air/sea to repel enemy fire/keep his comrades safe. I can think of so many applications lol.

I think luffy with his awakening will counter the Gura Gura no mi, and the Yami Yami no mi will be countered by advanced: conquerors, observation and armament/ryou. Elbaf the land of warriors, where shanks/mihawk used to duel. I believe after wano we'll get a training arc on elbaf mixed with a davy back esque arc before they fight blackbeard/travel to laughtale. Where luffy will learn advanced conquerors and give the hat to shanks. (Who'll probably let luffy keep it IMO). Also usopp vs yasopp :)

Someone else has probably mentioned this already, but Law being a big fan of the comic series Sora, Warrior of the Sea, would also support him being a Marine/involved with Sword. Especially if he read it as a kid, it would predispose him to think of Marines as the heroes. Despite the genocide of Flevance and all the horrors he endured, finding out that his savior, Corazon, was a Marine could well have reawakened those feelings. Also interesting that the other "Sora" fanboy we've seen, Vito from Bege's crew, is most definitely a pirate (of the more traditional lawless variety) and stans Germa 66 like crazy whereas Law declares he hates Germa. More hints from Oda maybe.

The theory you proposed seems really plausible and Law may experience the same fate as Javert from Les Miserable.

I think the interaction of Law and Luffy mirrors the interaction of Javert and Jean Val Jean on the end of the story wherein Javert (Law) let Val Jean (Luffy) along with Marius (symbolism of Luffy's life/youth) escape (possible Luffy's death due to the life/youth taken away by Ivankov's DF). I think he will perform the Eternal Youth to Luffy to reverse Ivankov's DF which reflect the death of Javert on the story. And yes, I am a bit stretching it by saying that in the musical Javert refers to himself "I am the Law".

Thank you for the Javert comparison, very interesting. My headcanon went in a different direction though-- Akainu as Javert. I can totally see Akainu killing himself during the final war because he refuses to compromise his view of absolute justice and would rather go out on his own terms than to align with pirates against the government he now sees as corrupt. Hearing you talk about Garp being the head of "SWORD", made me wonder about what was his plan by wanting Luffy and Ace to become marines. And at what point did Sengoku and the WG find out about these kids being, one, the son of Roger, and the other, the son of Dragon. Did they find out after or before Garp took them to Dadan's place? Or did they just know from the start?

Sorry if it's not related to Law, but the ramification of questions keeps growing here.

Also, this may or may not matter but from what I can recall Law's crew is the only pirate crew who's uninformed. Crews like Capone's and even Drake's are thematically outfitted, however none I would say have actual uniforms.

incredible. im sold. i ve always mentioned in my vids (randomly) that law has to have a broader purpose. what does pirate king even mean for him . i dont think he cares for it. kidd wants fame. luffy wants freedom. others want wealth. law has always wanted revenge. most recently in my cover of one piece 990. i think drakes x-calibur attack- excalibur is a great idea for knights of the round table if some secret organization. maybe not all the members of sword know each other, maybe some do. gotta also wonder if law left sword that also possible. Ayyye 🤙 Oda has said in the past that his plan was to always have Kidd be the true rival to Luffy. Where does that leave Law? Your point about the three of them is on point. Law's goals have always been revenge. He wanted to destroy the world as a child for Flevance, but Corazon (a planner) showed Law a different path. The way of the long game. Vengeance and revenge is achievable if you go about it the right way. The true history? Laugh Tale? If he had interest in any of that he would have likely joined them at WCI for the shot at the rubbing. All things lead to Kaido. Drake infiltrated him, Law infiltrated Doflamingo once again via Caesar. Each working together to ultimately affect the shady business operations of the Celestial Dragons-- the heads of the World Government responsible for Flevance. (The parallel of Kuzan infiltrating Blackbeard as well as the reintroduction of Moria lead me to believe all three will play their hand before this confrontation is complete as well)

If the Knights of the Round theory is correct then I would be open to altering my thoughts on Sengoku's involvement. If it is a Baroque Works situation where they don't know who is that the top then I could see the Law and Sengoku scene hit different. But there's still Sengoku hiding his transmissions with Cora from Garp. Unless the plausible deniability continues to apply. The Rocky Port Incident connection is a big factor for me as well as just the length of time before he and Drake were seemingly unleashed onto the scene as rookies.

Came back here after the first impression has worn off a bit: the conversation with Sengoku is still the ONLY ONE thing that keeps you from selling this theory to me completely. If Law always has been a secret marine (for 7 years or more), I can't imagine Sengoku not knowing or at least suspecting something about his involvement. There is just no way. And that time at Dressrosa it was clearly showed that they never met before or have any sort of "connection" in that way.

At the end of Punk Hazard, Law tells Smoker that he's going to Green Bit off the coast of Dressrosa. This piece of dialogue has never made sense to me, and it always struck me as very odd that Law would give Smoker this information. Since the reveal of SWORD, I've had the idea that most (if not, all) of the marines that we've been endeared to as readers are secret members of the organization. Assuming that Smoker, too, is a member of SWORD, then, finally, the conversation between Law and Smoker makes sense.
There is no in-universe explanation for Law informing Smoker of his plans that I can find. It's otherwise information intended for the audience, of which you'd think that Oda-san would include in the form of Law's thoughts, not a conversation between (supposed) pirate and a notorious pirate-hating marine. If both, as well as Issho, are in SWORD, the most purposeless conversation in the manga becomes a crucial clue unto the broader picture.

Law said that to Smoker because he wanted for the marines forces to be present at the green bit to arrest Doflamingo, who was supposed to be stripped of the Shichibukai title by that time. And Fujitora indeed was sent there.

I don’t think Law will be a Sword member and here’s why (although I do think it’d be neat).
1. Sengoku. The only way I could see Law being a member of sword was if Roscinante and Sengoku were; and if at Corazons death Sengoku took him in much like Tsuru with Drake. But you seem confident that he is not. And you’ve convinced me.
2. A sword operative would not be allowed to work on emotion. Taking on Doflamingo is a very personal vendetta that I do not think Sword would approve. Yes doflamingo is a bad guy but so is Kaido. The point of sword is to keep tabs on the bad guys. If Law was part of Sword I imagine he’d of been sent to renew his relationships it’s Doflamingo. Especially considering he is the key broker and has fingers in all the pies.
3. Koby would know more about Luffy. Koby and Drake are in the dark on Luffy plans. If law was feeding back info to Sword he’d be feeding back info on KOBYS FRIEND AND HERO LUFFY.
4. There is no point in sending Law to Kaido. They have Drake already and it’s not like Drake and Law could take him out.
5. Taking on Kaido would be considered a suicide mission and again would not be approved by Sword.
6. The Rocky Port incident. Even though we don’t know what happened it seems like it was absolutely barbaric. That was Laws doing. If you were Sword sure you’d act the pirate but you wouldn’t commit a unnecessary act of violence.
7. If they wanted Law to be a 7 warlord then they would have just given it to him. If Garp and Tsuru are involved they could pull a few strings without Law collection hundreds of hearts. This could be argued back but I believe his actions are excessive.
8. After Doflamingo it seems he has no motive until his recent interest in D. Why would a member of sword make that his primary mission? Especially if he could ask Garp. Who seems to know a lot more than he lets on.
9. Essentially the main counter argument is that he DOESNT HAVE A MISSION. His actions are emotional and personally motivated.

Imma bit iffy on Sengoku, since Garp has been working alongside him for decades now and they seem to trust each other and know each other pretty well imo.
Especially Kuma's quote about Luffy's crewmates and how they r loyal to him just like Dragon's. I believe it's inherited amongst them. The ability to know the good or ill will in people.
Most importantly if i go along this premise, Garp doesn't seem like a calculative person to me, who would plot for the downfall of CD and not be a RA, coz that's what RA's end goal is.
Overall picture i get is Garp loves Marines, and what they stand for, he doesn't like CDs ordering or influencing them, maybe he always despised em, and wanted to do something about them, and Sengoku working that close to WG would instead know even more deplorable things about them, fuelling his drive to overthrow them. I think Tsuru Garp amd Sengoku are in it, founding members even if u will.
Akainu being a member or not is a whole other deal.

It's possible that Sengoku is involved, or at least by proxy is aware of it. I could see the purpose of him pushing Garp into the ground and stopping him from acting revenge on Sakazuki being looked back later as a "Garp. What you're (we're?) doing in the shadows is far more important. Stop." moment. I personally think that it's plausible that Sengoku is aware but not a participant. At least not pre-timeskip. Maybe now that he's freed himself of the fleet admiral burden. If Sengoku is involved directly it puts a bit of a hole in this theory because the conversation on Dressrosa would have been much different if they were both in Sword. Unless certain Sword members don't really know who's in or not.

I don't know if you realize that Garp being the founder (or at least part of) Sword would give him excellent motivation for wanting Luffy to join the Marines beyond just "to be a good son"

Most definitely 🤙 Garp lost control of Dragon, he wanted to have a family member close by that he could pass the mantle to if he couldn't see the mission through. It's not the way he intended, but Luffy will be carrying that mantle either way!

Im not gonna say im 100% in on this theory cause as much as i would love it to happen (and you make some super strong points, i mean, water law does use a sub marine -it cracked me up so much sorry-) i feel like Oda could not pull this off and It wouldnt look weird either. Rn for me the Rocky Port incident is the biggest clue, cause why the hell would Oda connect those three outta nowhere. I feel like if It was just "a pirate killed the others and the government covered it up" Oda wouldve included Kobi thinking something like "i didnt really do much" or smnth.

Hey randy, What an amazing theory! New Subscriber btw. I'm not sure if anyone here has mentioned this in the comments, but I just remembered when Robin told Luffy that pirate alliances often ended in betrayal. It could be said that Law in a way is not betraying luffy because he is a marine, so Law wouldn't consider it being a betrayal.
Another reason I like your theory about Law is that aside from him, we the readers sort of know the majority of the supernova's dreams (objectives), whether it be wanting to become the pirate king, revenge or just simply surviving in the new world. Yet with Law, his objective has never been fleshed out fully. He never seemed interested in becoming the pirate king like Luffy and Kid, but with this theory it gives us some knowledge into where things are headed with him.

1 more thing that ties in with ur theory is that Roger requested Garp to raise Ace as a marine. Maybe he even told Garp what the will of D is and Garp told that to Dragon which is y Dragon is a revolutionary. Maybe at the time Roger felt that change was required from within the Marines as well which he entrusted to Garp and as for the change from outside the Marines/WG he took it upon himself to fulfill during his execution.

If this comes out true then Oda has been playing 5D chess from Sabody. This probably is the best theory I've listened to along with BB not sleeping. So much though has gone into it and everything in this theory is connected just the way Oda likes it.

Well, thanks for destroying my whole investment of Law being a badass pirates who is simply annoyed by Luffy‘s shenanigans... I am not a hyper One Piece fan, but your theory just makes too much sense to ignore it... could be pure coincidence and convenience of course, but now I really want this to be true. It would be an amazing plot twist. I also agree on the whole operation thing that costs the life of the surgeon who performs it. Why introduce it if it’s never going to be shown/done, but I refuse to believe that Law will die (until he actually dies lol). Also, who would be the recipient? I feel like there is no „good“ character who would want or benefit from eternal youth who is at the same time someone who actually deserves it (I am thinking of e.g. Luffy or another straw hat/ally, maybe Law wants to save his life this way, but luffy doesn’t strike me as someone who would ever want such a thing as eternal youth). I don’t know... so many many open questions. Thanks for making me overthink Law‘s entire character arc though xD

I can't see any other outcome, but Oda is always full of surprises. I don't expect anyone to want or ask for the surgery to be performed on them, but I could see Law believing in the secret power of D to save Luffy at a true time of need. I don't believe that it is "eternal" youth. But rather a transfer of what remaining life force one has. So if Law has 50 years of life left in him, that's what he can transfer. Luffy has been using his life force the entire series, pushing himself and knocking decades of his life off of him. This will bite him back later on. Ivankov's power took 20 years away from Luffy. Gear 2nd took years away, etc. But who knows, Law could use it on Bepo for all we know! Thanks for the comment and support, stay safe!

Randy Troy thank you for replying too :) true, I think the true power of the surgery, whether it’s eternal life or youth or something else, wasn’t really explained in detail yet and lots of things get lost in translation too, I guess. The idea of transferring life force sounds pretty interesting, actually. In the greater scheme, Law wanting to save Luffy, despite his „disgust“ towards him, would make sense because we all know that Law is being set up as Luffy‘s friend, whether he likes it or not. I find this almost too clichee though and I don’t want Law to die as a sacrifice for Luffy (I just love him too much xD), or for anyone that is. Then again... except for his personal vendetta against Doflamingo, what exactly is Law‘s endgame? Taking down the Tenryuubito/the WG? Sure. But that truly sets him up for an honorable death for the greater cause, if that is his only motivation in life. I‘ll die a thousand deaths if we ever get a shot of Law in Marine uniform though. Aaaaaah, I really want this to be true!! This theory is both too complex and too predictable to be (not) true. @RokuSakurai No he's the only one in the op world if there's chance to make luffy lifespan increase or else i can see new marco awakened df theory ,that luffy will be revived by awakened df of marco. Marco uses it entirely to revive luffy(with normal life span) incase of sacrificing his own life which is also a good theory . This also makes sense bcz marco is not needed to future wars . Marco now has no point to be in story . It's just protecting that WB village .If weevil gets defeated in wano arc or if he realizes his father is not WB . Then he will be really upset .
