The "classic lineup" of the group would reunite in 1999 and began recording new material. However, the group continued to change lineups and Guns eventually left to form the hard rock supergroup Brides of Destruction with Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe in 2002. L.A. Guns continued without Guns, bringing in guitarist Stacey Blades, however, following his decision to put Brides of Destruction on hiatus in 2006, Guns formed The Tracii Guns Band. The group's lineup consisted of former L.A. Guns members Black, Alexander as well as Jeremy Guns (though the lineup would eventually change), with the group eventually changing their name to L.A. Guns. Both groups continued to record and tour under the L.A. Guns moniker until 2012, when the Tracii Guns-led version of the group disbanded. Riley died in 2023.
L.A. Guns (feat. Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis) released a new single "Let You Down" on May 6, 2020. It was released as the first single from their then-upcoming fourteenth studio album Checkered Past, which was released on November 12, 2021, and featured producer Adam Hamilton on drums.
In May 2022, it was announced that Shawn Duncan had replaced Shane Fitzgibbon as their drummer. In the following month, guitarist Ace Von Johnson revealed that L.A. Guns had been working on new material for their next studio album. The resulting album, Black Diamonds, was released on April 14, 2023.

She make the moves
I love the nasty girls
How 'bout them shoes
You are so pretty girl
I love ya thighs
Take a trip in my Cadillac
2 the wild side
17 Crash hot sticky sweet
17
You're coming back with me
Don't say a word
Fire's burning down below
Ice in my blood
I ain't no Romeo
No daddy sweet
Just a bit of rock n' roll
Found on the street
17 Crash chaos all around me
17 Crash hot sticky sweet
17
I bet you 10 2 1
Cause I fix the race
Put it down 2 xperience
A different kinda taste
O my pretty 1
Don't look so sad
Drink 2 me occasionally
And all the fun we had
17 Crash chaos all around me
17 Crash hot sticky sweet
17
The lyrics to L.A. Guns's "17 Crash" appear to describe a wild, high-energy evening with a female companion. The first verse suggests that the singer and the woman are dancing together and he is expressing his attraction to her. He loves "nasty girls" and admires her physical appearance, particularly her thighs. The second verse implies that they are now in a Cadillac car, heading toward the "wild side," potentially for a night of illicit activities.
The chorus repeats the phrase "17 Crash," which seems to represent the frenzied, exciting feeling of the evening. The phrase "hot sticky sweet" reinforces the idea of sweaty, intense passion. Despite the chaos surrounding them, the singer seems eager to continue the experience.
The bridge of the song introduces a slightly darker tone, with the line "Fire's burning down below, ice in my blood." Here, the idea of intense passion takes on a more dangerous edge, with suggestions of violence or risk. Nonetheless, the singer is not portraying himself as a traditional romantic hero; he's "not Romeo" and there's "just a bit of rock n' roll, found on the street."
