The "classic lineup" of the group would reunite in 1999 and began recording new material. However, the group continued to change lineups and Guns eventually left to form the hard rock supergroup Brides of Destruction with Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe in 2002. L.A. Guns continued without Guns, bringing in guitarist Stacey Blades, however, following his decision to put Brides of Destruction on hiatus in 2006, Guns formed The Tracii Guns Band. The group's lineup consisted of former L.A. Guns members Black, Alexander as well as Jeremy Guns (though the lineup would eventually change), with the group eventually changing their name to L.A. Guns. Both groups continued to record and tour under the L.A. Guns moniker until 2012, when the Tracii Guns-led version of the group disbanded. Riley died in 2023.
L.A. Guns (feat. Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis) released a new single "Let You Down" on May 6, 2020. It was released as the first single from their then-upcoming fourteenth studio album Checkered Past, which was released on November 12, 2021, and featured producer Adam Hamilton on drums.
In May 2022, it was announced that Shawn Duncan had replaced Shane Fitzgibbon as their drummer. In the following month, guitarist Ace Von Johnson revealed that L.A. Guns had been working on new material for their next studio album. The resulting album, Black Diamonds, was released on April 14, 2023.

This is not my
This is not my frequency
This is not my freq
Even as a child I was different from those
Excommunication from the ones that I loathed
And no amount of threatening could make me inclined
To hell with all your demons you poor deluded fools
Take me to a place where there are no rules
This is not my
This is not my frequency
This is not my freq
And anybody there ever broken a heart
Being who you are and not playing the part
And all the best intentions could never make it real
Sorry to my lovers but that's the way I feel
Changing like a season no time for regrets
Don't you ever wonder if this is good as it gets
This is not my
This is not my frequency
So when it comes down are you in or your out
Take a little time and let them think about
I will not be driven like a rusty old Ford
I did it my way I was not bored
Can't buy me off with silver
I won't do as I'm told
Keep your drunken hands off me
Your touch just leaves me cold
This is not my
This is not my frequency
The lyrics of L.A. Guns’s song Frequency are about feeling out of place in society and rejecting the values and beliefs that are imposed on one. The singer describes himself as someone who has always been different from others, and who refuses to conform to societal expectations. He rejects the idea of being driven by external forces, and instead seeks a place where there are no rules. The chorus, “This is not my frequency,” serves as a reminder that the singer is not part of the mainstream, and that he does not subscribe to the same values and beliefs as those around him.
The lyrics of the song also speak to the idea of authenticity and staying true to oneself. The singer describes how he has never played a part, but instead has always been who he is, even if it meant breaking the hearts of his lovers. He encourages listeners to question whether this is as good as it gets, and to reject the idea that they should be satisfied with the status quo. Ultimately, the message of the song is a call to reject conformity and embrace one’s individuality.
