Life is the eternal struggle to live at the expense of others, is has been nothing more and nothing less for billions of years.
Yet we've only become to realize such in the last few thousand years or so: aware of how cruel life can be, compounded by malevolence of our peers.

My grandfather passed this down to us, he’s 83 and still lives in fear everyday. I’m learning to detach from my anxiety and fear, bad things will happen in life but I’ve always made it through whatever’s thrown at me.

Depression and anxiety can definitely be a genetic thing. I know it is for me. But that doesn’t HAVE to be our future, our path. Every day we get to choose. And it won’t happen all at once, hell I’ve been working on it my whole life. But little steps, progress not perfection! Believe in yourself. Visualize the good. I love his final comment about observing courage in yourself. It really does work. If you avoid your fears or try to escape them with alcohol etc they will just get worse. If you confront them and they don't go away it's still the best option.

Understanding you are not alone is the greatest feeling ever. Honestly, life is absolutely horrifying, painful. But, when the pain is gone, as they say, something else takes it place.

To me, the trick is, the lesson to be learned, is not allow it to make you bitter and angry. Being kind, despite the pain, is absolutely incredible to me. We are a violent species, but so are most species. How we rose above the rest, is communication. The better we communicate, the better off we are.

Working out and beating anxiety I think have similar "battle plans"; through determination and pain you make yourself physically stronger, and through determination and mental pain you make yourself mentally stronger. Both require getting out of your comfort zone and facing pain to become stronger, so maybe by starting a rigorous workout plan you can translate that to the social anxiety and beat that too

This is SO excellent! His wisdom and ability to articulate are amazing. He says he doesn’t like the word “self-esteem”. I was reminded of several years ago when I worked on an adolescent psychiatric unit. I asked a young patient what he was working on and he said his “self of steam”. That was a most precious moment because he was so earnest and open. I like his version better than self-esteem and have used it ever since. ❤️

Rick Lane he has depression and he cured it with diet and analysing it, but it's genetic so he has to stay strong and vigilant all the time. He is a human he gave in once because of his injury i think, so what, we are all humans we all make mistakes. It doesn't make his lessons untrue

Rick Lane 1. Curing hereditary depression doesn't mean it goes away and you can live your life however you want to, change of diet or a major life event can trigger it. Some people's depression needs active life long work to keep it at bay.
2. The drug prescribed for his injury, if it's an opiate, has a tendency to make addicts out of people because that's what opiates do. And most of the time for injuries opiates or similar drugs are prescribed.
3. People already having depression or a mental disorder can find it difficult to wean themselves off the drug. So think how dangerous the drug might be if a person like jbp got addicted.
4. It's not necessary that only people with depression get addicted to drugs, even people with no mental disorders history can get addicted. So cut him some slack and look at him as a human being who is trying his best to keep the depression at bay. He gave in once and paid the price for it.

There is an absolute difference between a fearful sort of nervous, guilty conscience, daring of being.. VS a planned, sure of yourself, honest, responsible, moral step forward in terms off peace of mind. The light hearted mind in play is a definite goal to work at along with an intentional excited anxiety or energy. I worked at relaxing from fearful predatory mental states and into what I called a "host anxiety" where I was like in an acting mode, trying to be loud, boisterous, excited, selling my ideas, boldly narrating my stories or jokes as I played my character in life.. and I found the beautiful fool's positive anxiety of being.. as opposed to a negative dagger of the mind, tax on being, more stressful anxiety.

I've lived my entire life with fear and lost much of my life to it. Something happened recently and I now have to face the greatest challenge of my life. It is absolutely unavoidable and my mind is telling me to run and run as far away as I can from it. But I cannot. It will test me to the absolute limits of my very being. Your videos are pleasant to watch and brings context to the talk. One of your videos had subtitles in the middle of the screen. I felt the subtitles made it more impactful and the video made me feel good as I seemed to absorb more of the information when I was hearing and reading it. Having the subtitles in the middle of the screen i think helped absorbing the information. Had it been at the bottom, i would have been focused on the subtitles and only watching the rest of the video peripherally.

Alone in your own space blocks all negative thought and clear up the mind to what your feeling. Whats real and not? Peace of mind. I think most of time its people around you that know you how to trigger that emotion. You will see it when they start to smirk as they notice your face going into a traumatic state. Just leave asap as soon as you see that evil smirk. you will get worse if you stay they wont stop until they see your face lost. Then you get more anxiety cause you feel alone and didnt get closure cause you are afraid of being judge and laugh at. wondering if its in your head. Its only real at the begging and evetually go further and start to feel helpless and your their by yourself wondering am i right or wrong? I think you are right when you see the smirk as they know your getting hurt or make a stupid excuse to how your feeling. Well well, Jordan does what he does to perfection. He shores up the dam, he tunes the engine, he rewrites the song. He brings light into the dark room of the human soul.
I was a drug addict from age 12, and began to move on with a care free mind at 29. It took me about 20 years to put it all together, but it’s done. The drugs went first, then I had to adjust my thinking and my actions. In adopting a honest lifestyle, I had to take life as it came, all of it. Very seldom do I doubt my reasons though I am self critical in a strictly analytical way to find positive solutions. Never do I allow myself to denigrate myself. Life is good, even though it will eventually destroy my existence in this world. Oh, this man is completely correct.

Nice video. A general suggestion. Reduce negative thoughts with a simple practice. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. Slowly the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Day or night, when taking a walk, when reading, on the phone, before sleep etc sit or lie down and observe your breath. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. –Counsellor.

Fear is the product of ignorance. Basically, we fear what we don’t know or fully understand. Many people try to avoid or stop their anxiety, but the truth is that only adds to it. The best way to beat anxiety is to embrace the fear and learn from it. Your brain cannot be at peace with a feeling if it never is allowed to experience it. This mindset basically cured my panic attacks which I had for many years. I don’t have them anymore.

This really resonates with me, I gave up Alcohol about 8 months ago, haven't had a drink since. I was high functioning in a sense, 2 degrees most recently PhD, multiple jobs, significantly above average intelligence, total workaholic, but I woke up one day and realised that I was using Alcohol as a means of escape rather than any of the 'legitimate' reasons to socially drink -- I reflect now and see the hypocrisy of the latter within society at large. Additionally, depression runs in my family. My alcohol consumption was increasing, approaching about 1-1.5 bottles (about 1 litre) of hard spirits, 4-6 days a week, and I started to observe a fork in the road with a binary good/bad outcome, so I just canned it. Haven't looked back, and the benefits that I have experienced as a result, are really non-trivial. I would encourage anyone to do it, it takes only a couple of weeks to reset. Its not hard if you commit the decision in your brain, and don't look back.

I'm a fan of Jordans work and the way he puts his words together. But it's not fear of death which causes my anxiety. Death is just a part of life and a reminder why we should live and love. Not only people around us but what we do along this journey. Money causes my anxiety. Has led to sleepless nights too. Not poor management of the stuff or some lavish life style. Quite the opposite. I've lived half a life thus far. And realised I've got to work as hard in the second half as I did the first.. take the concept of money away and the anxiety would stop over night. A year into the force controlled pandemic, work is limited, lots of local business shut down by goverment. Yet each and every one of us gets issued goverment council tax, recently an annual charge for bin collection and taxation strong. Yet apart from bin collection everything else is shut down... death is far from my mind.

Great points. We are all going to die, who wouldn't be anxious. Never thought about it like that. Anxiety is a thing. I like to re-frame my anxiety as "anxious excitement"...

Peterson is putting down clinically what Paul Tillich put down philosophically in his great book "The Courage To Be" many years ago. Peterson is right on.

Any anxiety disorder that you suffer from is crippling. You have to literally jump off a bridge hoping that someone will catch you. It’s the ultimate leap of faith, that’s the only way to defeat it. I hope that people suffering from this find the strength to do that.

I am not a psychologist. My observation of myself and other humans around me seems to suggest that there is quite a confusion and therefore an overlap between FEARS and ANXIETY.
I personally have learned to deal with them like this. When I have the slimmest feeling I FEAR something I dive into it like diving straight into a hurricane; to find that in its eye it is rather quite!
Facing ANXIETY is much more difficult. I have to re-frame it and use a lot of mental tricks to bring it under full control. This is especially true when I dealt with other people anxieties.
What about DEATH? Do we FEAR it or are we so ANXIOUS of when it might come to take us under its wing (as in THE SEVENTH SEAL movie) that the only thought of it stop us from living a fulfilling life? If we learn to flip the coin we solve the mysterious interplay FEAR/ANXIETY: by striving to live a fulfilling life every day we can learn how to be prepared every day to face the ultimate FEAR and like this we won't have much time to be adsorbed by feelings of dread that ANXIETY can generate.

30 years i finally beat anxiety i just needed to do the exercises of breathing and hope and know one day ill beat this. Never give up because one day youll overcome this.

@Barra the best advice i got was the phrase. This to shsll pass. Meaning when u have anxiety attacks they usually last 90seconds . Then it passes for me i can deel it coming on i stop sit and breath deep and slowly try to relax my shoulders stomach. Deep breathing slows our heart rate the monks do this in tibet they can slow there hearts to incredible amounts so we know how they did it. Thats why deep breathing relaxes u obviously we can not be as good as monk's but a little really takes the edge off. I resisted this for 30 years because i just thought it was bull. Then i was fed up and tried it because i thought nothing would help i was convinced i had a medical thing that was being missed so deep breathing seemed stupid when im going crazy was not going to help boy was i wrong. But better late than never . U can ask me more questions i know the hell u r dealing with and i know how to get rid of this if . U can text me friend request me ill hrlp u

Nikki, Reduce negative thoughts with a simple practice. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. Slowly the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Day or night, when taking a walk, when reading, on the phone, before sleep etc sit or lie down and observe your breath. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. The funny thing is, that in these times lots of people have fear from being alone, fear from silence, fear from everyday life or from ordinary day. In this case, traveling and adventuring isn't answer and it will not help (even if you can also overcome your other fears which is great), because you just escaping and these "everyday" fears will return sooner or later if you will not handle them and face them here and now. But this case is rather about settling and sorting your life first (to eliminate things which can evoke "fears from background") and than you are ready to embrace and overcome the fear in it's nature.

Panic disorder and agoraphobia is incredibly tricky and it's hell. Subsequently add depression and nihilistic epiphanies to that and.. there's no will to even fight because I just cant find anything to justify the suffering.

Stepping head on into the paralysing fear may be the only way to find something to justify the suffering, but theoretically I just see everything as pointless suffering. The universe is obviously indifferent to all sentient life.

Hopefully i can find something inside the fear.

LSD and mushrooms completely changed my whole life. I became a better version of myself
This experience gave me a lot of confidence about myself and my body. A bunch of bad thought/behavior patterns were broken. One of these were pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands a lot. It gave me a lot of hope that thing will be fine, this is one thing that I heard throughout the trip; Everything is alright. The main reason for the trip was my severe depression and it definitely helped me(although it's not gone). Before all I could do was lay in bed. Now I am trying to rebuild my life one step at a time which wasn't possible before.

It's true. If I'm following correctly "my anxiety" which I hate to say now days that it has become more of a trend than a disorder. This made me stay dettached and ignorant to true human behavior and interaction. It made me naive of things because it disassociated me from everything I was afraid of even myself. Lately I've been learning to stand still in my anxious behavior and analyze that something isn't right and things in my life are not going the way they should and could be going if I just let myself become aware, present and in the moment. To stop running away from everything including myself, to stop feeling like a burden to be around with, but rather start having my own back and push myself to discomfort.
