Låpsley Lyrics

You can paint these wings and make me fly
You can paint these wings and make me fly
You can paint these wings and make me fly

Crush coming over like the R.E.M kind
Orange in the colour like blackpool on the sunrise
You can paint these wings and make me fly
Crush coming over like the R.E.M kind
Orange in the colour like blackpool on the sunrise
You can paint these wings and make me fly
You can paint these wings and make me fly

Crush coming over like the R.E.M kind
Orange in the colour like blackpool on the sunrise
I probably can't see the bigger picture
You can paint these wings and make me fly

I probably can't see the bigger picture

Crush coming over like the R.E.M kind
Orange in the colour like blackpool on the sunrise
You can paint these wings and make me fly
Crush coming over like the R.E.M kind
Orange in the colour like blackpool on the sunrise
I probably can't see the bigger picture

You can paint these wings and make me fly
You can paint these wings and make me fly
I probably can't see the bigger picture

Crush coming over like the R.E.M kind
Orange in the colour like blackpool on the sunrise
You can paint these wings and make me fly
Crush coming over like the R.E.M kind
Orange in the colour like blackpool on the sunrise

I probably can't see the bigger picture
You can paint these wings and make me fly

Overall Meaning

The first line of the song "You can paint these wings and make me fly" sets the tone for the metaphorical meaning behind the lyrics. The wings represent the singer's desire for freedom and escape from reality. The painter represents the person who can provide that escape by painting these wings. The repetition of this line throughout the song emphasizes this longing for escape and emphasizes the importance of the painter.

The second stanza "Crush coming over like the R.E.M kind, Orange in the colour like blackpool on the sunrise" describes the intensity of the feelings the singer is experiencing. The crush is compared to the band R.E.M, suggesting the euphoria and high that comes with infatuation. The imagery of the orange sunrise in Blackpool emphasizes the beauty of the experience, which contrasts the mundane reality of everyday life.

The final stanza "I probably can't see the bigger picture" acknowledges the limitations of the singer's perspective. They are unable to see beyond their current situation and longing for escape, which is why they need the painter to create those wings and provide that escape.

Overall, "Painter" is a song about longing for escape and the power of imagination to create that escape. The painter represents the possibility of breaking free from reality and the emotional depths that come with it.

@snarizpe820

I just recently found this song and already I'm obsessed.

Here's what I hear though: (lyric wise)

You can paint these wings and make me fly

Crush coming over like the all and end kind

Damage in the color, like black, we're all the same lines

I probably could see the bigger picture

(And that disambiguated voice sounds like at one point it says: "Should've left time, don't spook, on the roll now" but I could be way off on that lol)

I came after my Banks playlist played this song next and I thought "this reminds me of billie eilish and the end of Bad Blood by tay swift" and now I'm happier to read that Finneas mentioned them!
