Y banderas de morado
Los versos de los sin voz
Gritos de Lorca y Machado
Obuses que roban el sueño
En esas noches silbaron
La Tierra se parte en dos
Guernica llora, sangra el corazón
La libertad es pecado
Brigada Lincoln pide munición
Pero, no habla castellano
Y gritan: "no pasarán"
Con acento americano
Y gritan: "no pasarán"
Hablad a vuestros hijos
The lyrics to La Raiz's song "Suya mi guerra" reference the Spanish Civil War, specifically the involvement of the Brigadas Internacionales, or International Brigades, which were composed of volunteers from other countries who fought on the Republican side against General Franco's Nationalist forces. The song opens with a nostalgic recollection of the hope and idealism of the time, with "banners of purple" representing the Republican flag, and "verses of the voiceless" referencing the poets Federico Garcia Lorca and Antonio Machado, who were killed by the Nationalists. The next stanza alludes to the bombing of the town of Guernica, immortalized in Pablo Picasso's famous painting, which devastated the Republican cause and prompted an international outcry, though no foreign governments intervened on behalf of the Republicans. The refrain of "No pasarán" ("They shall not pass") was a rallying cry for the Republicans during the war, and is repeated here with the addition of "with an American accent," highlighting the role of American volunteers in the International Brigades.
The song then shifts to a more personal story, with references to real and fictional characters. "Carmela" is a song by the Brigadas Internacionales, and "Carmela no vuelvas" ("Carmela, don't come back") ponders the fate of a young woman who may have been killed in battle. "El Ebro," referring to the Ebro River, was the site of the bloodiest battle of the war, and the line "but don't hang up your boots" speaks to the perseverance of the Republican soldiers. The photo of Capa refers to Robert Capa, a famous war photographer who captured many images of the Spanish Civil War. The final stanza celebrates those who continue to fight for justice and freedom, not just in Spain but in all parts of the world.
Overall, the lyrics of "Suya mi guerra" serve as both a tribute to the Brigadas Internacionales and their comrades in the fight against fascism, and a call to action for future generations to carry on that spirit of resistance.

LYRICS For the non-spanish speakers:
[Poem]
They were years of illusion and flags of purple
verses of those without voice, shouts of Lorca and Machado
mortars that steal the dreams, during that nights wistle
the ground breaks in half, and the world looks away
Gernica cries, heart bleeds, liberty is sin,
Lincoln brigade ask for ammunition, but doesn´t speak spanish
And they scream "They won´t pass" with american acent
And they scream "They won´t pass" with american acent
[Song]
There a poem from Alberti to awake consciences,
first line of combat, Carmela don´t came back
Ebro smells like defeat, but don´t hang your boots yet,
tomorrow I´ll came for you, let the trumpets be heard
The passion of the brigadier crossing the map,
Capa photo will forever remains,
abbandoned in exile on that ditch
tomorrow I´ll came for you, let the trumpets be heard
To those who jump borders and push hard,
to those who push hard to demolish them,
to those who jump borders and push hard,
thank you to those who made my war their own.
But the night was falling and alone behind the wall,
they saw the monster comming, future faded away
they say the ones who lost saw the moon crying
We the sons of defeat owe you one
The passion of the brigadier crossing the map,
Capa photo will forever remains,
abbandoned in exile on that ditch
tomorrow I´ll came for you, let the trumpets be heard
To those who jump borders and push hard,
to those who push hard to demolish them,
to those who jump borders and push hard,
thank you to those who made my war their own
To those who jump borders and push hard,
to those who push hard to demolish them,
to those who jump borders and push hard,
thank you to those who made my war their own.
[Outro]
When the years pass by
and the wounds of the war start healing.
When the remind of those painful and bloody days
fades away in a present of liberty, peace and welfare
When rancor atenuates
talk to your sons
talk them about those men and women from the international brigades
