And I got something worth more than your accountability
You may know you're livin' in a dream
But with some ambition I'll turn you into royalty
'Cause money makes the world go 'round
Money makes the blind man see
Money makes the world go 'round
Maybe let me set you free
The opening lines of Labrinth's song "Juju Woman" set the stage for a power dynamic that suggests a certain degree of exploitation or manipulation. The singer is addressing a dancer, acknowledging her happiness and freedom before abruptly pivoting to his own ulterior motives. He offers her something "worth more" than her accountability, implying that he sees her as someone who owes him something - perhaps her time, her attention, or even her body. The next lines cement this impression, as the singer proposes to turn the dancer into "royalty" with enough ambition. He promises to set her free, but it's unclear whether that's freedom in the sense of liberation or merely escape from some other situation.
The song's refrain centers on the role of money in the world, repeating the phrase "Money makes the world go 'round" twice. This seems to be an ironic commentary on the singer's own desires and motivations, since it positions him as someone who is focused on the pursuit of wealth and power rather than any genuine connection with the dancer. The phrase "Money makes the blind man see" reinforces this meaning, suggesting that the singer views his own ambitions as a form of enlightened self-interest that separates him from those who lack resources. Overall, "Juju Woman" is a complex exploration of the darker side of ambition and desire, using the metaphor of the dancer as a stand-in for anyone who might be vulnerable to someone with power and influence.
