Born Eduardo Mora Hernandez in the Mexican state of Nuevo León, Mora began singing at the age of four -- and by the time he was in his mid-teens, he was earning some money singing in local bars, restaurants, and clubs. Mora started using Lalo Mora as his stage name as a teenager, and it was also during his adolescent years that he enjoyed a small local following as half of a vocal duo called Lupe & Lalo (which also included singer Guadalupe Mendoza). Mora got a major break in 1980, when he was invited to join the norteño group los Invasores de Nuevo León as a lead vocalist. Los Invasores de Nuevo León were a new group at the time but went on to become a big name in regional Mexican music, and their success brought Mora a great deal of exposure in both Mexico and the United States. In 1993, Mora left los Invasores de Nuevo León to become a full-time solo artist (he was replaced by Isaías Lucero, who was replaced by Rigoberto Marroquín four years later in 1997). Leaving a group as visible as los Invasores de Nuevo León was a gamble for Mora, but it was a gamble that paid off for him commercially; as a solo artist, he became even more famous in the regional Mexican market. Mora built a huge catalog of solo albums, recording for Fonovisa Records (one of the top labels in regional Mexican music) extensively in the '90s and early to mid-2000s. And in the mid- to late 2000s, Mora provided a lot of solo albums for Disa Records (another label that is a major-league player in the regional Mexican market). In the 21st century, Mora's son Lalo Mora, Jr. has followed in his father's footsteps and pursued a career in music. The 2000s found the younger Mora working as the lead singer/bajo sexto player for los Herederos de Nuevo León, a norteño group with a strong Invasores de Nuevo León connection; in los Herederos de Nuevo León, Lalo Mora, Jr. has performed alongside accordion player Javier Rios, Jr., who is the son of singer/accordion player Javier Rios, Sr. (a founding member of los Invasores de Nuevo León). Lalo Mora, Sr. and Javier Rios, Sr.; had spent 13 years performing together in los Invasores de Nuevo León -- and after reaching adulthood, Lalo Mora, Jr. and Javier Rios, Jr. ended up performing together in los Herederos de Nuevo León.

Dios te trajo a mi destino
Pa que seas mi consentida
Y a lumbradas mi camino
Son como anillitos de oro
Con rison de tus cabello
Los que adoro
Ya ni modo
Tu nariz respingadita
Y tu piel que es casi Blanca
Y esa boca
Chiquitita
Con tu risa que me encanta
Tus pestañas
Son las rejas
De los ojos que tu tienes
Bajo el arco
De tus cejas
No los cierres
Que me lleve
Tu nariz respingadita
Y tu piel que es casi Blanca
Y esa boca
Chiquitita
Con tu risa que me encanta
Chiquitita
De mi vida
Dios te trajo a mi destino
Para ser mi consentida
Y a lumbradas
Mi camino
In Lalo Mora's song "Chiquita", the singer describes the object of his affection as a small and delicate thing that has brightened his path in life. He believes that God brought her into his life to be his cherished companion. The singer admires her physical features, such as her nose and fair skin. He is particularly enamored with her smile and laughter. The singer compares her eyelashes to the bars of a jail cell, suggesting that he is imprisoned by his love for her. He implores her not to close her eyes so that he can continue to bask in her beauty.
The song is a tender tribute to a loved one, capturing the euphoric emotions and sense of devotion that comes with being in love. The singer's descriptions are intimate and personal, as he admires both physical and emotional aspects of his lover. The repetition of "Chiquita de mi vida" throughout the song reinforces the singer's affection for his partner, and the final lines express gratitude for her presence in his life.

Chiquitita de mi vida
My little one, embodiment of my life
Dios te trajo a mi destino
God brought you into my life for a reason
Pa que seas mi consentida
To be my cherished one
Y a lumbradas mi camino
And to light up my path
Son como anillitos de oro
Your hair, like rings of gold
Con rison de tus cabello
With the joy of your hair
Los que adoro
Those things that I adore
Ya ni modo
No matter what
Me quedé enredado en ellos
I am tangled up in them
Tu nariz respingadita
Your little turned-up nose
Y tu piel que es casi Blanca
And your almost-white skin
Y esa boca Chiquitita
And that little mouth of yours
Con tu risa que me encanta
With your laughter that I adore
Tus pestañas son las rejas
Your eyelashes are like bars
De los ojos que tu tienes
Around the eyes that you have
Bajo el arco de tus cejas
Under the arch of your eyebrows
No los cierres que me lleve
Don't close them, so I can be taken away
Chiquitita de mi vida
My little one, embodiment of my life
Dios te trajo a mi destino
God brought you into my life for a reason
