Deep Purple
Larry Clinton & His Orchestra Feat. Bea Wain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When the deep purple falls over sleepy garden walls
And the stars begin to flicker in the sky
Through the mist of a memory you wander back to me
Breathing my name with a sigh
In the still of the night once again I hold you tight
Though you're gone, your love lives on when moonlight beams
And as long as my heart will beat, lover we'll always meet
Here in my deep purple dreams
Here in my deep purple dreams

This was my Mother and Daddy's song.  It didn't matter what they were doing...when it came on the radio, they would stop and dance to it.  I can close my eyes and see them dancing in the kitchen.  It just makes my heart happy...they were so in love.

Bea Wain passed away on August 19, 2017, at age 100. This version of "Deep Purple" will always be my favorite. Rest in peace, lovely lady.

So sorry to hear of her passing. I contacted her grandson and he passed along birthday wishes to her on her birthday.

Well done Bea. This is the version most remembered, even more than the one Hoagy recorded himself.
