I started Last Conservative. Made my first record, "Unremarkable" in 1999. Got some attention. Played some cool shows around Buffalo. Made my second record, "These In-Between Times" in 2001. One of the songs, "Out of Nowhere", got a lot of radio play. Started to establish myself as a songwriter (with help from our producer, Armand John Petri who worked with the Goo Goo Dolls and 10,000 Maniacs among others). Played some bigger shows. People started to listen. Started touring. Got some airplay around the US. Lineup change. Met Robby Takac from the Goo Goo Dolls and signed with his label, Good Charamel Records. Recorded my third record "On to the Next One" (produced by Robby). Lots of guitars and a few hooks thrown in for good measure. Some cool things started to happen (featured on MTV's Advanced Warning, opened for Bon Jovi, played shows at over 100 high schools around the northeast, won XM Radio's 2005 Best Unsigned Band, toured all across the US). Lineup change (rock and roll isn't easy). Recorded our latest album, "Pretty New Things" which came out in 2006 to rave reviews. Toured with Counting Crows, Goo Goo Dolls, Augustana, The All American Rejects and Boys Like Girls. Played the coolest clubs packed with fans and the smallest dives to no one. Lowest low to highest high. Saw all four corners of the country. Oftentimes sober. Lineup change.
And now, here I am. Writing better than I've ever written before. Finding my voice and the right words. Making music I truly believe in. Settling into my skin. Working working working. Songs about faith and love, joy and anger, comfort and chaos. New music coming very soon. - TJ Zindle
Hey Hey
Last Conservative Lyrics

Hey hey me soul was a kickstand
But one touch of your hand
Blew it all away
Was it the dust or the stealing
Was it the sexual healing
It is the way I am dealing with
These empty arms of mine
Fill them with a whole new meaning
I'm way down, I'm played out
These empty arms of mine
Was it the dirt or the shaking
Was it my cynical hate thing
Now it's a total awakening
I awoke on a new ground
Bored by the old sound
Do you think I should let my guard down
These empty arms of mine
Fill them with a whole new meaning
I'm way down I'm played out
These empty arms of mine
These empty arms of mine
Watch them all say nothing to me
I'm way down they're played out
These empty arms of mine
Picture this a time to let it go
Picture this a time to let them know
You don't need it anymore
You don't need it
The lyrics to the Last Conservative’s song Hey Hey are a depiction of a struggling individual who has found their salvation in another person. The song starts with the lines “Hey hey my body's a wasteland, hey hey me soul was a kickstand, but one touch of your hand, blew it all away” which embody a person who is empty and void of anything meaningful in their life. They are stuck and in need of a kick start, which is remedied by the touch of the person they are addressing in the song.
The following lines, “Was it the dust or the stealing, was it the sexual healing, it is the way I am dealing with these empty arms of mine” depict a person who has been in a rough situation, whether it be as a result of theft, or needing sexual healing. These experiences have left them feeling unfulfilled and in need of someone to fill the void. They realize they cannot just power through their struggles, and their emotions will require acknowledgement and attention.
The chorus, “These empty arms of mine, fill them with a whole new meaning, I'm way down, I'm played out, these empty arms of mine” emphasizes the need for someone to fill the void in their life. They have embarked on a journey of finding a way to fill the emptiness and regain meaning in their life. The bridge then comes in with, “Picture this a time to let it go, picture this a time to let them know, you don't need it anymore, you don't need it” which signifies that the character has finally found a way to let go of their struggles and old ways of being, and has found a new beginning in their life.
