D… Read Full Bio ↴Laura Fygi (born August 27, 1955, in Amsterdam) is a Dutch singer.
Daughter to a Dutch father, a manager at Philips, and an Egyptian mother, a belly dancer by profession, Fygi lived with her parents in South America for the first eight years of her life.
Between 1987 and 1991, she was a member of popular Dutch girl-band, Centerfold. During performances, the trio dressed themselves in sexy lingerie. They had hits in the Netherlands and all over Europe, and were equally famous in Japan.
In 1991, the ladies of Centerfold stopped performing and Fygi (together with Rowan Moore) started a band called The Backlot. After one performance in Dutch theatre Paradiso, an album was expected, but Mercury Records had already asked Fygi to make a solo album. This first album, Introducing Laura Fygi, comprised mostly jazz numbers, and was produced by Ruud Jacobs. In the album, Fygi was accompanied by celebrated Belgian musician Toots Thielemans.

The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sun-burned hands I used to hold
Since you went away the days grow long
And soon Ill hear old winters song
But I miss you most of all my darling
dsunis
The lyrics to Laura Fygi's song, "Les Feuilles Mortes" (translated as "Autumn Leaves"), is a poignant portrayal of the nostalgia and heartache that comes with the change of seasons. The very first line "The falling leaves drift by the window" sets the mood for the entire song, as it brings to mind the image of leaves falling away from the trees and symbolizes the passing of time. The colors of autumn, red and gold, are mentioned, emphasizing the beauty and transitory nature of life.
The next few lines refer to a happier time in the singer's life, when she was with someone she loved. The memories of "summer kisses" and "sun-burned hands" represent warm, happy moments that she cherishes dearly. However, things have changed now that her lover has left her, and she is left alone to face the long, cold winter. The last line, "But I miss you most of all my darling, when autumn leaves start to fall" is the most poignant of all, as it conveys the depth of feeling that the singer has for her lost love.
The second verse, sung in French, speaks of a love that was shared between two people. They lived together and loved each other deeply, but life has separated them now. The final lines, "Et la mer efface sur le sable les pas des amants dsunis" (And the sea erases on the sand the footprints of divided lovers), serves as a metaphor for the transient and ephemeral nature of human relationships, which are sometimes lost forever.
