LEAH made waves across the globe when she released her debut album Of Earth & Angels through her independent record label Ex Cathedra Records, despite being virtually unknown at the time. Through the internet and word of mouth, the world began to hear about LEAH and her unique style, bringing together her influences of symphonic metal, celtic and new age, and even soul and world music. The song “Sanctuary” by Leah starts off with a dark and heavy tone in the first verse with the lyrics “All our innocence is lost, Where is paradise now? We traded bliss for security, A hell’s sanctuary.” The lyrics describe the loss of innocence and how it has led to a sense of false security, creating a sanctuary that feels more like hell. The second verse goes on to explain how courage has burnt to the ground and hope is nowhere to be found. These lyrics convey a feeling of hopelessness and despair, which is reflected in the somber melody of the song.
Despite the darkness that is described in the first two verses, Leah brings a sense of hope with the chorus.
