Sanctuary
Leah Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All our innocence is lost
Where is paradise now?
We traded bliss for security
A hell′s sanctuary

They fall like rain
Dull my pain yet again
They play their games
Will we awaken?

All our courage has burned to the ground
Where does hope survive now?
We saw the wreckage of obscurity
A hell's sanctuary

They rage like flames
Dull my pain yet again
They play their games
Will we awaken?

Warrior, I stand tonight
Come hope or Hades
Bring the fight
We war into the night
Until the darkness becomes
Light

One day we will see how this world was meant to be
And I know we will be there
Darkness hides in shadows
We′ll shine the light and follow
The Voice
The Answer to our prayer

Warrior, I stand tonight
Come hope or Hades
Bring the fight
We war into the night

Until the darkness becomes
Light

Overall Meaning

The song “Sanctuary” by Leah starts off with a dark and heavy tone in the first verse with the lyrics “All our innocence is lost, Where is paradise now? We traded bliss for security, A hell’s sanctuary.” The lyrics describe the loss of innocence and how it has led to a sense of false security, creating a sanctuary that feels more like hell. The second verse goes on to explain how courage has burnt to the ground and hope is nowhere to be found. These lyrics convey a feeling of hopelessness and despair, which is reflected in the somber melody of the song.

Despite the darkness that is described in the first two verses, Leah brings a sense of hope with the chorus. The lyrics “Warrior, I stand tonight, Come hope or Hades, Bring the fight, We war into the night, Until the darkness becomes light” show the determination to fight and see the light at the end of the tunnel. Throughout the song, Leah repeats the phrase “dull my pain” which could be a reference to the numbness that can be felt in times of darkness. In the last verse, Leah paints a picture of a better world where darkness is replaced with light with the lyrics, “One day we will see how this world was meant to be, And I know we will be there.” This song is a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

A sanctuary for the soul when the dark of autumn starts falling on us. Beautiful as always, with the musical magic and emotional lyrics that is Leah's trademark. Leah is a gift to this world. She's like a fairy messias.
