Work
Leila Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Getting tired of this way
Got plenty work to do
Release this ball and chain
Got a picture in my mind
Of how I want to be
With the passing of time

For five days it's a strain
Monday to friday even in the rain
Robotic is how I feel
I long to break away long to be free

If I could do it my way
No more would I be blue
I'd do what I choose
If I could live my reality
No typing of letters making cups of tea
I'll leave it all behind

Getting tired of this way
Got plenty work to do
Release this ball and chain
Got a picture in my mind
Of how I want to be
With the passing of time

My ideal would be creative as can be
To sing yeah that is me
Just as I dreamed as a little girl
In my own big world

Where do I start, listen to my heart

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Leila's song "Work" tell the story of a person who is feeling trapped and unfulfilled by their job. The first verse expresses a desire to break free from the mundane routine of work, and the second verse paints a picture of the daily struggle of a robotic existence. The chorus repeats the desire for freedom and a chance to pursue one's own dreams.

The lyrics also touch on the idea of a dream career, as the singer longs for a more creative and fulfilling job, one that would allow them to sing and express themselves. The line "Where do I start, listen to my heart" sums up the singer's longing for a change, and the uncertainty of how to make that change happen.

Overall, the song speaks to a common human experience of feeling stuck in a job, and the desire for something more meaningful and fulfilling. The lyrics offer a message of hope, suggesting that change is possible with perseverance and a willingness to listen to one's own heart.

First off, I really needed this. So thank you 🙏🏾

My notes paraphrasing Leila's advice with my own thoughts in it:

Your mentality around work needs to change for you to optimize work and work capacity.

-You don't HAVE to do this: You don't have to start a business. You CHOOSE to start a business. It's a choice. You can start selling stuff online instead or something else.

-The goal is to be imperfect. What doesn't allow us to work long hours is monitoring if we're doing perfect work and having a ton of judgment for something not being 110%.
Your work can be imperfect, but it can be pretty decent too.

-Your work capacity will adapt over time under tension (like working out everyday will increase your stamina to work out more) until you reach a new level of normal.
Change the meaning you give to working long hours. If you only work hard (like 14 hours in a day) for once a month, then OF COURSE it's gonna be hard, because you do it once a month. If you did this for 2 to 3 weeks, you'll be more used to doing this and feel better about it.

-Don't be where everyone else wants you to be, because everyone else wants you to "take a break" "relax" "don't work too hard" are these people making more money than you? Are they grinding?

Identifying and changing your beliefs about yourself, your output, and your results will massively change you for the better.

Father Mihai - Improvement for the Well-Endowed

Hi Leila! This is the first video I see from you, and I really enjoy your content and energy. I would like to drop my experience too.

I’ve been coding for 10 years. It’s what I love to do, and what I will likely do until the day I sign out of life. There are days when I’m working on a project, and I’m so deeply entrenched in it, that I find myself having worked for 16-18 hours straight. However, after a session like that, I am exhausted to the point of not being able to talk. I can pull off around 2 weeks of that before I simply fall apart.

Over time, I came to realise the importance of dividing work TYPES, understanding how each type of task affects you, and mixing and matching them in order to get more long term mileage out of your mental capacity.

I find that coding is a very intensive, abstract activity. I can pull off around 4-6 hours on a regular day without sacrificing long term performance, or risking burnout. I also find that doing advertising, sales, marketing, writing copy, activates a different part of my brain. I can proceed to then do that for another 4-6 hours before I burn out THAT part of my brain.

I might be able to do some housekeeping work for another 1-2 hours afterwards - stuff such as planning, checking analytics, etc.

If you’re a budding entrepreneur, and must wear all the hats, differentiating work types can be a very important skill to have.

Fantastic content!

Work beliefs that will serve us all

1. I don’t need to do this (it’s all a choice) & they don’t need me (Dont put the pressure of the world on you)

2. Embrace & always attempt being a perfect imperfection

3. Work capacity & limbic friction strengthens off brave courage consistently.

What do you hate / fear the most? …Well you know what to start the day with now.

Don't forget the #1 reason: You're doing what you want to do in life. Your work has intrinsic meaning to you. If you were an accountant just to pay the bills and you don't give two hoots about accounting for any other reason, there's no way you would be willing to work 14 hours a day.

Juanca Jimenez

This is already inherently stated in the “you don’t have to do this”

The Just show up Show

I mean, how can you work 9-5 to pay the bills and then also work 6-12? It would obvious be 9-5 to pay the bills and then all the other free time that’s not spent on survival and family on the skills?

The Just show up Show

What does 6-12 mean?

Fee L

This!!!!!!

concon

I think even in that case you could be willing to work 14 hours per day.

Since your intrinsic meaning would revolve around finding a more fulfilling path in life.

It could look like 9-5 job to pay the bills and then 6-12 to work on skills/knowledge to change your life.

1. I don’t have to do this
2. Goal is to be imperfect “done is better than perfect”
3. Work capacity is built from time under tension
