I was in the audience for this performance and I don’t ever remember hearing another live performance in which a soloist played with the ferocity Leila Josefowicz demonstrated that night. It was an exhausting experience. And this recording is great because it was so well miked that the listener can hear the bite of the bow on the strings when she digs in as the forceful sections of the piece develop.

How fortunate for you!

I heard this piece on Radio 3 a few days ago while in the car, with a lot of bass, wow, extraordinary. Touches of the Walton in it, and a sense of Gershwin at one point. Love the unison string scale sections, plus the use of synthesiser (?).
