Dag Gone
Lennex Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm so sorry sir
who are you talking to
and don't worry son
am I speaking to soon
so sick and tired from
all these real words
cause I'm sick from getting fired
from love from these girls
I want to sit at home
and get high with my clone
instead I'm stuck with these fucks
when I just want to be alone
so get lost
next time when I see
you'll be under the frost
with my boss and the moss
covered by the ants and you'll be holding a cross
I could break a dollar and still
make no sense
I like a little virgin girl
who's lost her innocents
when she was too young
too young for me
cause she was just now starting
to bleed

how many times must an image be burned in my mind
like a hot iron moment frozen in time
spin the wheel of disaster and master your charm
sing a song about
losing your self and saying what the hell has taken so long
daggone

[musical interlude]

how many times must an image be burned in my mind
like a hot iron moment frozen in time
spin the wheel of disaster and master your charm
sing a song about
losing your self and saying what the hell has taken so
long have the days been since the initial bomb blast of sound scored a dash

but I know it's never gonna last
so I have to say Daggone

Overall Meaning

In the first verse of Lennex's song Dag Gone, the singer expresses his frustration with life and love. He apologizes to someone, but it is not clear who he is addressing. He then laments how sick and tired he is from dealing with reality, particularly from getting fired and losing love from women. He wishes to stay home and smoke weed with his clone but is instead stuck dealing with people he finds unpleasant. He tells whoever he is addressing to "get lost" and threatens them with death, saying that they will end up "under the frost with [his] boss and the moss covered by the ants and […] holding a cross." At the end of the verse, the singer admits that he struggles to make sense of his life and confesses his attraction to young girls.

In the chorus, the singer repeats the question, "how many times must an image be burned in my mind like a hot iron moment frozen in time," emphasizing his struggle to move past difficult or traumatic experiences. He encourages the listener to "spin the wheel of disaster and master [their] charm" and to sing a song about losing oneself and wondering why it took so long to do so. The chorus ends with the exclamation, "Dag Gone," encapsulating the frustration and confusion that the singer feels.

Overall, Lennex's Dag Gone is a song about feeling lost and disenfranchised with life. The singer struggles to make sense of the world around him, particularly in regards to love and his own desires. The chorus provides a sense of catharsis, urging the listener to embrace their own flaws and vulnerabilities.

This album was the sound of my teen years. Lennex was our only real local band, and they dominated the venues on the peninsula and the whole DMV (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia). The guys were super friendly and always talked to everyone, even shy 15 year olds like me. They just had a reunion show after all these years, so maybe one day you'll get to add another Lennex album here.

Omg!!! This is why youtube can be so great because this randomly popped up in the video suggestion feed. It put me into a time machine to when I was probably 19-20 yrs old. And I know this because the first time I saw these guys I was still getting in bars by knowing door people. Anyway, it was Ocean City, MD...circa 2001ish I guess. Cant remember the bar. Their sound had not evolved to this yet as they were doing their very best Mothers Milk era RHCP and Mr. Bungle impressions at the time. But I remember they left an impression and I always kept up from that point on. I also thought it was super cool that they played PushMonkey over the PA between a set.
