Morning
Lennon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The feeling of coming to no one there
You rip off my clothes as you rip off my life
Destroyed my world in a matter of words
You left me waiting, you left me undeciding
You left me waiting, you left me waiting

I hear the knock at the door
And I don't care who's not there anymore
This sound is driving me insane
And damn it nothing's going my way

We're at the point of talking about the morning
Trying to decide who's going to go
I think you forgot whose bed you slept in
And who is going home

I'm running through the forest by myself
I'm walking over oceans to you
Hey ma, I'm walking on water
Hey God, I think I'm your son

We're at the point of talking about the morning
Trying to decide who's going to go
I think you forgot whose bed you slept in
And who is going home

Don't stand there looking at me
Don't stand there looking through me
Just take your clothes and I'll open the door
Looking around, you don't live here anymore

I don't know what I can do for you
I'm not sure what I can be for you
Over some table in someone else's kitchen
Someone's talking but no one wants to listen

We're at the point of talking about the morning
Trying to decide who's going to go

I think you forgot whose bed you slept in
And who is going home

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Lennon's song "Morning" draw out the painful aftermath of a failed relationship. Lennon expresses his emotions vividly through the imagery of someone who has been left behind. The opening verse, "The feeling of coming to no one there / You rip off my clothes, as you rip off my life," describes a sense of abandonment, betrayal, and the disfiguring of his whole sense of himself. The loss he feels is corrosive as it mimics a literal tearing away of his skin. The following lines, "Destroyed my world in a matter of words / You left me waiting, you left me undeciding", illustrate how his former partner has thrown his life into chaos and uncertainty, leaving him in a state of limbo.

Lennon's feeling of frustration and anger is highlighted in the following verse, "I hear the knock at the door / And I don't care who's not there anymore / This sound is driving me insane / And damn it nothing's going my way." Here, he's frustrated by the constant reminders of the past and the fact that the present is not offering him any respite. The repetition of "you left me waiting" in the song highlights the sense of confusion and regret that Lennon is feeling as he struggles to make sense of the situation. He's desperate to move on, but he's still trying to reconcile his feelings while reflecting on the past of the relationship.

I remain in support of Chapman's Incarceration... doesn't matter what time or what day... I stand with this Family (Lennon)... Eternally... forever freedom remains "DENIED!" is my thought (Chapman)...

the day grows near... the light fails his dreams..!...

Chapman fails... and is lost to the future...!

It shall be made so...

Amen.....
