these days
Lennon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She says, some nights I just lie awake
She says, sometimes I just sleep for days
Smokes another cigarette and looks around the room
What are these days coming to

She says, it seems I've been screwed over again
But that's okay who the hell needs friends
It's just easier to pretend
Say you don't care and watch for the end

One more night is all she thinks
I won't come back, but I'm too weak
Those things he said to me,
One more night, and than I'll leave

She walks in one second too soon
Silence uncovers the room
She looks to him in disarray
He says I'm not sorry and turns away

He says I'm tired of hearing you bitch
You're nothing more than a stupid trick
You're not even worth the price I paid
Get out of my life, get out of my way

One more night is all she thinks
I won't come back, but I'm too weak
Those things he said to me,
One more night, and than I'll leave

She's standing on the balcony saying look this is my destiny
One more step and I'll finally be free
He says if you want my help I'll give you that extra step
She just turns and walks back to their bed

One more night is all she thinks
I won't come back, but I'm too weak
Those things he said to me,
One more night, and than I'll

One more night is all she thinks
Won't come back, but I'm too weak

Those things he said to me,
One more night, and than I'll leave

Overall Meaning

In the song "These Days," John Lennon tells the story of a woman who is stuck in a toxic relationship with her abusive partner. The woman expresses her feelings of helplessness and despair, saying she sometimes lies awake at night or sleeps for days because of the situation. She tries to numb the pain by smoking a cigarette and pretending not to care about what's happening to her. As she contemplates leaving her partner, she realizes that she is too weak to take the leap, and "one more night" is all she thinks.

The lyrics paint a vivid picture of emotional abuse and the struggle to break free from it. The woman's partner belittles her, calling her a "stupid trick" and saying she's not worth the price he paid. But despite his cruelty, she still considers his offer of help when he tells her he'll give her a "extra step" if she wants his support. In the end, she decides to stay, knowing that she is too weak to leave for good.

Overall, the song is a powerful commentary on the complex and often unbearable nature of emotional abuse, emphasizing the way it can erode a person's self-worth and leave them feeling trapped and alone.

Great performance. She's very talented and in this time of crap music, her originality is refreshing.

@mrtxstar

Your right, she can call it whatever she wants... country, rap, jazz... but that don't make it so. Lennon, your band Devil's Gift is kick ass metal so rock on.

Dougy.....wtf? I am a Lennon fan(saw her perform 18July in Abilene) but I wouldn't call any of her songs metal(studio or not). Rock, yes but not metal. BTW, Lennon if you ever read this, you sound great without your band as well.

@mrtxstar
