Lenny Kravitz Lyrics

American woman, mama let me be
Don't come hanging around my door
I don't want to see your face no more
I got more important things to do
Than spend my time growin' old with you
Now woman, stay away
American woman, listen what I say
American woman, get away from me
American woman, mama let me be
Don't come knocking around my door
I don't want to see your shadow no more
Colored lights can hypnotize
Sparkle someone else's eyes
Now woman, get away
American woman, listen what I say
American woman, I said get way
American woman, listen what I say
Don't come hanging around my door
Don't want to see your face no more
I don't need your war machines
I don't need your ghetto scenes
Colored lights can hypnotize
Sparkle someone else's eyes
Now woman, get away
American woman, listen what I say
American woman, stay away from me
American woman, mama let me be
I gotta go
I gotta getta away
Think I gotta go
I want to fly away
I'm gonna leave you woman
I'm gonna leave you woman
I'm gonna leave you woman
I'm gonna leave you woman
Bye bye, bye bye
Bye bye, bye bye
American woman
You're no good for me
I'm no good for you
Looking at you right in the eye
Tell you what I'm gonna do
I'm gonna leave you woman
You know I gotta go
I'm gonna leave you woman
I gotta go
I gotta go
I gotta go
American woman
Yeah
The lyrics of Lenny Kravitz's song "American Woman" are about the singer's rejection of American societal values and culture. The lyrics begin with a request/demand for American women to stay away from him and leave him alone. The singer does not want to see them or their shadow around his door anymore. He expresses his disinterest in women and insists that he has more important things to do than to grow old with them. He urges American women to listen to what he's saying and leave him alone.
The singer then goes on to talk about his distaste for the war machines and the ghetto scenes prevalent in American society. He states that he does not need them and that other people can be hypnotized by these things, but he wants none of it. He reiterates his thoughts for them to get away from him and leave him alone.
Towards the end of the song, the singer declares that he has to leave and get away, and he wants to fly away. He repeats that he is leaving the American woman and bids her goodbye, stating that she is no good for him, and he is no good for her. He declares that he has to go and, in the end, repeats the words "American woman" and "Gotta go."
