The Storm
Lenny Kravitz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And you're the only one that could take me this far
I'll be forever searching for your love
I walked away but I was wrong
You're the one that keeps me strong
You're the fire that keeps me warm
How will I get through this storm?
At night, I pray before I sleep in hope of finding you
I've opened up my heart, I want you to come through
I close my eyes, I'm searching for your love
I walked away but I was wrong
You're the one that keeps me strong
You're the fire that keeps me warm
How will I get through this storm?
Jay-z: I got the bounce Lenny
Check me out
Brooklyn's bad boy back again
Feet hit the ground runnin' and my back's to the wind
Angels on my shoulders, head in the clouds
No, I'm not rappin', I'm just thinkin' real loud
My karma's my armor, my charm and wit
Is like a lethal bomb, I'm warm and s***
And I did bad for good but when you're trapped in the 'hood
You do worse for less, homie earth's a test
Only god can judge me
My heart ain't ugly
But the thoughts that I drop is heavy
Try budge me
Mama loved me, pop left me
Still the homies call me lucky lefty
I'm flashy and bentley
Deceptively smart
I make hustlin' heaven and pimpin' an art
Long as I know that I'm blessed
'Cause I'm loved in depth
I can walk through the water and not get wet
I'm that fresh
I walked away but I was wrong
You're the one that keeps me strong
You're the fire that keeps me warm
How will I get through this storm?
Jay-Z: There you have it
Young hov, Lenny Kravitz
Not your average
Get your umbrella
It's raining macs and broads
all grace to god
I walked away but I was wrong
You're the one that keeps me strong
You're the fire that keeps me warm
How will I get through this storm?
The song Storm by Lenny Kravitz featuring Jay-Z is a powerful reflection on the importance of love in one's life. The first few lines convey the idea that the singer's life has taken him far beyond the ordinary, into realms beyond planets and stars. However, he sees the person he loves as the only one who can truly take him this far. The singer then expresses his deep need for the love of this special someone, by saying that he will forever be searching for it. This provides insight into the depths of his longing and how his love is a guiding light in his life.
The second verse begins with the admission that the singer had walked away from the relationship but now realizes that he was wrong. The person he loves is the one who keeps him strong and the fire that keeps him warm, metaphors for the supportive and healthy aspects of a loving relationship. The singer acknowledges that he is in the midst of a difficult time or storm, and questions how he will get through it without the love of this special person. The mention of prayer and searching with closed eyes indicates that the singer's quest for love is spiritual and full of hope.
Jay-Z's rap in the bridge adds an additional layer of meaning to the song. He speaks of his many blessings and strengths, including his charm and wit, and the fact that his karma has become his armor. Even as he acknowledges that his thoughts can be heavy, he sees himself as someone who can walk through water without getting wet. This metaphor suggests that he can handle difficult situations with grace and ease. The final lines of the song provide a sense of celebration, with Jay-Z saying that "it's raining macs and broads" and acknowledging that all grace is to be attributed to God.
