Uncharted Terrain
Lenny Kravitz Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My daddy sat me on his knee
He told me that he loved
Me and that we're a family
He spoke about the world
And all the possibilities
Then he held me in his arms
He paved the way for me to follow
Uncharted terrain now had a name
It's how I got over
When I became a man
My daddy said come walk with me
He said beeing a man
Comes with responsibility
And all is keep your word
To the best of your ability
Then he looked me in my eyes
And said it's time to set you free
He paved the way for me to follow
Uncharted terrain now had a name
It's how I got over
He paved the way for me to follow
Uncharted terrain now had a name
It's how I got over
He paved the way for me to follow
Uncharted terrain now had a name
It's how I got over
The lyrics to Lenny Kravitz's song "Uncharted Terrain" are a tribute to the singer's father, who provided him with guidance and support throughout his life. The song explores the relationship between father and son, and the importance of following in one's father's footsteps while still forging one's own path.
The opening verse speaks of the singer's childhood, and how his father sat him down on his knee to impart important life lessons. His father told him that he loved him, and stressed the importance of family. He encouraged his son to dream big and to pursue the countless possibilities the world has to offer. The chorus refers to the "uncharted terrain" of life, and how his father paved the way for him to follow, giving him a sense of direction and purpose.
The second verse shifts to the present, with the singer reflecting on his manhood and the responsibilities that come with it. His father continues to guide him, reminding him of the importance of keeping his word and fulfilling his obligations. His father tells him that it's time to set him free, allowing him to forge his own path through life. Once again, the chorus emphasizes the role that his father played in helping him navigate the uncharted terrain of life.
Overall, "Uncharted Terrain" is a touching tribute to the bond between father and son, and the ways in which a father can guide his son through life's challenges and adventures.
